On November 7, the U.S. Department of State will host Poland for a bilateral dialogue on science and technology cooperation under the auspices of the Joint Commission on Science and Technology Cooperation. Dr. Kerri-Ann Jones, Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, will lead a U.S. delegation in meetings to discuss collaboration in the fields of health, natural resource management, and energy. Professor Jacek Gulinski, Under Secretary of State for the Ministry of Higher Education and Science, will lead the Polish delegation. The U.S. delegation is composed of representatives from the Department of State, National Science Foundation, National Cancer Institute, Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratory, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the private sector. The dialogue is also expected to cover strategies to expand job opportunities for women in science and to encourage women and girls to become more active in science and technology fields.

Held under the auspices of the U.S.-Poland Science and Technology Agreement, which entered into effect on September 9, 2006, the Joint Commission monitors progress on current projects and agreements and identifies new areas for scientific cooperation. Two previous Joint Commission Meetings resulted in collaboration in important areas such as cancer research and environmental science. The last Joint Commission Meeting was held in 2010 in Warsaw, Poland.
