ACS Design's Analysis Skills Pay Off For Injection Moulder

HASTINGS, HAWKES BAY, NEW ZEALAND, October 8, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ASC Design's Analysis Skills Pay Off For Injection Moulder

Andrew Simpson owner and founder of Taupo based ACS Design is passionate about the analysis service that he offers; the technology behind it and the knowledge that he will be keeping his customer satisfied.

A perfect example of this is the work he completed recently for Auckland based company Apex Valves. Apex Valves specialise in the design and manufacture of Control Valves for low and high pressure hot water and filtration systems. In Addition, Apex Valves produces an extensive range of Float and Reservoir Valves for the agricultural industry.

Apex Valves used the Flow Analysis services offered by ACS Design to help determine the best options for injection moulding the Cap and Body components of their recently released BigBoy reservoir valve.

Both parts where to be made from a demanding glass filled polymer that required precision moulding to hold tight tolerances during assembly. Apex wanted to be sure that they selected the correct gating options to minimise distortion and ensure accurate parts.

The VisiFlow software that ACS Design uses for flow analysis is a "virtual moulding machine". The software allowed ACS Design to run several virtual moulding scenarios to access various gate locations and moulding parameters. The result being that Apex could confidently move forward to tool design by incorporating the best runner and gate set up as found during the analyses.

The analyses also highlighted the potential distortion of the parts for each gating option which was invaluable in selecting the optimum gate design. The direct benefits, (aside from the gate selection), included saving in tooling costs as a cold runner could be used in preference to the initial assumption of a hot runner.

All up a very successful result for Apex by taking advantage of the technology available to injection moulders through ACS Design.

And what's Andrew's favourite saying? "Getting it right first time" - that's the key.
