MAST BECOMES MEMBER OF NEW ICoCA SECURITY STANDARDS BODY

ICoCA is the first international multi-stakeholder initiative overseeing standards in the private security industry

LONDON, UK, October 3, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Maritime Asset Security and Training (MAST) Ltd, the maritime security and training specialist, has become a founding signatory of the new International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers Association (ICoCA).

The ICoCA is a multi-stakeholder body composed of private security companies, civil society organisations and governments, with the aim of overseeing the implementation of the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers, and to promote the responsible provision of private security services.

By signing up to this association, MAST is demonstrating its commitment to humanitarian law and human rights and standards imposed by ICoCA for its private maritime security company (PMSC) operations.

The launch conference and inaugural General Assembly for the ICoCA took place in Geneva on the 19th and 20th September and MAST has joined as one of the new members of this international standards body.

Phillip Cable, CEO of MAST stated, “MAST has consistently championed the need for strong international bodies to safeguard professional standards in the private maritime security industry. Testament to this included MAST working with the Maltese Government and Fenech & Fenech Advocates to help develop The General Authorisation Regulations (Protective Security Measures on Board Ships), the only licensing regime of its kind in Europe for PMSCs.

“We are delighted to be a part of the newly established ICoCA and support its aim of clarifying and policing international standards for the private security industry. We see this as a strong step forward for the industry.”
