Architects Design Group Completes Design for Georgetown Public Safety Operations & Training Complex

Georgetown, TX Public Safety Operations and Training Facility Groundbreaking

GEORGETOWN, TX, USA, September 19, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Architects Design Group (ADG), in association with local architecture firm, KAH Architecture, recently completed the design of the new $22.7 million, 76,000 square foot Georgetown Public Safety Operations and Training Complex located on a 21 acre site directly adjacent to the City’s new Fire Station No. 5 on D. B. Wood Road. This facility will replace the current main police department building located at 809 Martin Luther King, Jr. Street.

City officials and local community representatives celebrated the ground breaking for the new center on Thursday, August 15. The new Public Safety Operations and Training Facility is designed to meet current and future needs through Year 2030. In addition to administration offices and training classrooms, the new facility will house several specialized areas including a Communications/Dispatch Center, Evidence Processing and Storage, Criminal Investigation Interview Suite, Crime Lab, Outdoor Firing Range, and Obstacle Training Course. A City EOC (Emergency Operations Center) is also included, which will be utilized for shared Departmental conferencing and training during non-activation periods.

The facilities are designed to withstand 165 mph winds and F3 tornado forces. The building will provide continuity of operations, meet current and evolving technology needs, and has been designed with redundant systems that allow for 72 hours of independent operation.

ADG’s sustainable design includes automated building systems controls for lighting and HVAC, water conserving and low-flow metered fixtures, and solar hot water heating. High-efficiency reflective roofing materials, high-efficiency heating and air conditioning systems, and room occupancy sensors will also lower energy use. Proposed energy efficient construction is to include thermally efficient glazing assemblies and envelope design, and solar shading.

The facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014.
