fitlosophy Launches fitbook TNT to Raise Funds for Leukemia Lymphoma Society

“Team fitbook” pledges to raise $50,000 at Nike Women’s Half Marathon to direct funds toward research in memory of her mother

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, USA, August 29, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- fitlosophy inc., the creator of fitbook™, a line of fitness and nutrition journals, announced the launch of fitbook TNT with 20% of proceeds benefitting Team In Training (TNT) to raise funds for Leukemia research. fitlosophy founder, Angela Manzanares lost her mother just six months ago in an 18-day battle with a very rare form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia with a FLT3 gene mutation. Not one to sit around and wallow, Manzanares knew in order to heal, she needed to act.

Manzanares approached Team in Training, a fundraising program of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer, because of their common mission help people live healthy, active lifestyles. A non-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c) 3 organization, TNT also offers coaching and training to help everyday people accomplish great physical feats. fitbook TNT, fitlosophy’s flagship fitness and nutrition journal, proudly sports the Team In Training and Leukemia Lymphoma Society logos with a punchy purple binding. Four dollars from the sale of each fitbook TNT benefits Team in Training.

Manzanares realized she could make an even stronger impact if she created a team to run in the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco. When she learned that raising $50,000 would allow her to direct the funds to a specific research foundation in her mother’s name, “team fitbook” was born. It is Manzanares’ hope that her team can raise the amount necessary to donate 100% of funds raised to Dr. Cathy Smith at UCSF, who has dedicated her LLS grant-funded research to finding a cure for FLT3.

“My momma was my world, my best friend, and FLT-3 took her from me so suddenly," says Manzanares. ”I am dedicated to putting blood, sweat, (and probably a few) tears into making a difference so we can make a (not-so-small) impact.”

In addition to creating fitbook TNT and raising money through Team In Training, Manzanares will send a free fitbook to all those who donate $56 or more to team fitbook, a significant number as Manzanares’ mother was just 56 when she passed. It is Manzanares’ hope that these initiatives will make great strides toward understanding more about FTL3 and creating awareness around the need for a cure.
