Maritime Asset Security and Training (MAST), the leading global maritime security organisation, has appointed Jim McDougall as Head of Training
LONDON, UK, August 21, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Maritime Asset Security and Training (MAST) Ltd, the leading global maritime security organisation, has appointed Jim McDougall as Head of Training.Jim has been a professional trainer for over 30 years, having held positions as instructor, manager and director. He was instrumental in developing the British Armed Forces’ shooting policy and later applied the same system to the Canadian and Omani Armed Forces.
Jim’s main focus will be on MAST’s training development and delivery systems, including: ‘Ship Security Officer’, ‘Company Security Officer’, ‘Port Facility Security Officer’, ‘Counter Piracy’ and ‘Close Protection’ courses. He will also coordinate the delivery of MAST’s small arms training and shooting coaching programmes at its new firing range on Gozo, to ensure the highest standard of marksmanship and weapon safety for MAST Security Operators.
Jim will establish MAST’s firing range on Gozo, which has been developed following changes in Maltese law enabling EU citizens to shoot a weapon without the need for a firearms’ licence. The range will give the public the opportunity to live fire historic weapons, enhance existing shooting skills or to simply enjoy a unique shooting experience in a safe environment with expert tuition.
Jim is a master shooting coach in all small arm disciplines and also in ‘three positional’ Olympic shooting. He was team coach of the British Army Combat shooting team which successfully won all 14 International matches against 9 other nations.
Jim started his career with the Parachute Regiment, before transferring to a specialist British Army training unit (SASC) where he served in all major training establishments around the world.
For the past 10 years he has provided training development and security consultancy to a number of major oil and gas companies including BP, Shell, and Occidental. Over this period he developed an engineering and technician training development plan and competency mapping for all positions and grades. He has also advised major corporations on their recruitment procedures and has advised the Oman Government on Omani national and expatriate recruitment and nationalisation programs.
MAST has invested heavily in gaining accreditation for its operations and for working to improve professional standards for Private Maritime Security Companies (PSMCs) since its establishment in 2005. MAST recently gained City & Guilds accreditation for its Maritime Security Operatives course, which means it is now accredited to offer training programmes to UK armed forces’ personnel using MoD learning credits, and to security teams looking to gain an internationally recognised qualification.
Philip Cable, CEO MAST stated: “Jim is a really exciting addition to our growing training team and his extensive experience brings us the highest class of expertise. His appointment follows the increased interest we are seeing from maritime security companies and operatives, shipping groups and governments for the specialist security training that we are able to offer.”
Jim McDougall, Head of Training, MAST stated: “This is an exciting and evolving time for the world of Maritime Security training. MAST is at the forefront to ensure that best practice and compliance is achieved in all aspects of its service delivery, and training is no exception. I’m looking forward to contributing and being part of what is already an excellent training and support team.
