Veganism on BBC Radio 4, Sunday, 21 July 2013
The Vegan Society has been working very closely over the last two weeks with BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme on a piece called Rethinking Veganism, which aims to investigate “why a new, increasingly health-conscious generation is rethinking its nutritional needs and embracing a meat and dairy-free diet”.
We suggested interesting things happening in veganism and made contacts with academics and people working in veganism for the programme. We also supplied statistics, background information and arranged for the conversion of a rare recording of the late Donald Watson, who co-founded The Vegan Society in 1944 and who coined the word ‘vegan’, to a format that would allow The Food Programme to use his voice in the piece.
We are really pleased that this prestigious programme has noticed that there is something exciting happening in veganism at the moment. If you miss the programme this Sunday or its repeat on Monday – or if you are not based in the UK - you will still be able to use the ‘listen again’ facility at the BBC website to hear the programme.
