The Wind Powering America team hosts live webinars on a variety of themes on the third Wednesday of every month. The July webinar will feature two speakers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Joel Cline and Mark D. Powell will discuss the impacts of hurricanes on offshore wind farms and how insurance companies can potentially improve their risk assessments.
Joel Cline is a meteorologist at DOE's Wind and Water Power Program in Washington, D.C. He is a technical advisor for meteorological input to planning and program execution for wind power, mainly working with terrestrial-based wind structures and short term forecasting.
Mark D. Powell is an atmospheric scientist for NOAA's Hurricane Research Division (HRD), located at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory in Miami, Florida. He is now stationed at the Florida State University Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies in Tallahassee, which is a NOAA Applied Research Center.
