Lynn Howell to receive ABA Solo and Small Firm Trainer Award

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 11, 2013 — The American Bar Association Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division (GPSolo) will honor lawyer Lynn Howell of Gulfport, Fla., with its Solo and Small Firm Trainer Award at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Marines’ Memorial Club Hotel in San Francisco. 

The award, which recognizes attorneys who have made significant contributions to educating lawyers or law students regarding the opportunities and challenges of solo and small-firm practice, will be presented at the GPSolo Division’s Military Dining Out event during the ABA Annual Meeting

“We are honored to bestow Lynn Howell with the 2013 Solo and Small Firm Trainer Award,” GPSolo Chair Benes Z. Aldana said. “She has served as a program chair for over 100 section continuing legal education programs and demonstrated a tireless enthusiasm in supporting the professional development of lawyers and in particular our GPSolo members.”

Howell’s private practice includes personal representation, business and real estate law. 

Howell serves as the chair of the GPSolo Programs Board and oversees the division’s CLE offerings. She represents GPSolo on the ABA Standing Committee on Continuing Legal Education, where she chairs the Mandatory CLE Subcommittee and is a member of the Section Officers Conference’s Annual Meeting Task Force. Howell is active in GPSolo’s Title, Conveyancing and Bar Related Insurance Fund Committee and its Research Task Force. 

Her leadership roles within the ABA included serving on the Section of Business Law’s Council and as chair of the Career and Practice Development Committee and the Nonprofit Organizations Committee. She also served as the Young Lawyers Division liaison to the section. 

Howell is a past recipient of the Stellar Member Award by the ABA Center for Professional Development and the Friend of the Division Award from the Law Student Division. She is a life fellow of the American Bar Foundation and has served as a committee chair and active member of local and state bars, including serving as the secretary of the Student Education and Admission to the Bar Committee of the Florida Bar Association in 2001. 

Howell received both her J.D. and MBA in finance from Cleveland State University.
