Oil & Gas UK Launches Quest to Find Exceptional Performers

Today (27 June) Oil & Gas UK launches its quest to find the most outstanding companies and inspirational people working in the offshore oil and gas industry by opening the nominations for this year’s Awards. The Oil & Gas UK Awards ceremony takes place at Aberdeen’s Exhibition and Conference Centre on Thursday 7 November.

Trisha O’Reilly, Oil & Gas UK’s communications director, said: “Our nationwide awareness campaign, ‘Energising the Nation’s Future’, highlights the industry’s vibrancy and the hundreds of thousands of highly skilled people employed within the sector who foster innovation in the quest to extract the country’s valuable offshore oil and gas resource.

“The Oil & Gas UK Awards complement our campaign, providing an ideal showcase for the exceptional skills and enterprise demonstrated by individuals and companies throughout the UK.  A key focus of the Awards is recognising the talents of young professionals and technicians as well as the dedication of experienced mentors who pass on their knowledge to the next generation – providing a great opportunity too to highlight the careers this industry has to offer.”

Glen Cayley, upstream director UK & Ireland for principal sponsor of the Awards, Shell U.K. Limited, said: “Recognising and rewarding  excellence is of great importance to Shell and the Oil & Gas UK Awards provide an outstanding opportunity to showcase the huge variety of talent that continues to grow and develop in our diverse industry. To receive an Oil & Gas UK Award is a great achievement for any winner and we are delighted to be supporting these prestigious awards once again in 2013”.

Nominations are invited from oil and gas companies of all sizes who believe they and their people have the energy, innovation and expertise to be an award-winning performer.  There are five categories of awards with three recognising the outstanding contribution of individuals: young professionals and technicians who are seen as the industry’s future and mentors who share their knowledge and expertise with the young and less experienced.

Two awards are given to companies. One is presented in recognition of a company’s efforts to develop the skills of its employees while the other rewards firms who demonstrate innovative ways to improve business efficiency and sustainability.

From 27 June, applicants are invited to submit their nominations online here. The closing date for entries is Friday 16 August.
