ABA asks DOL for assurance on law student and law graduate pro bono internships
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 28, 2013 — In a letter to the U.S. Department of Labor, American Bar Association President Laurel G. Bellows requested clarification to ensure that the agency will continue to interpret the Fair Labor Standards Act to allow law students and recent graduates to gain valuable job experience and prospective employer contacts through internships to provide pro bono work for the poor.
Bellows also applauded agency efforts to enforce the FLSA to defend law students and recent graduates from wage and labor exploitation.
