Tate & Lyle to showcase functional foods at Vitafoods International

WHAT: 6-8 May 2008 – Tate Lyle’s European food ingredients team will be exhibiting at the 11th Vitafoods International event in Geneva, Switzerland, at stand number 1028.

Visitors to Tate Lyle's stand will have the opportunity to learn more about PROMITOR™ fibres (PROMITOR™ Soluble Gluco Fibre and PROMITOR™ Resistant Starch), which form an important part of Tate Lyle’s ENRICH™ Obesity and Weight Management service.

Visitors are invited to try prototypes made with added PROMITOR™ fibre. Prototypes include: a delicious chocolate chip cookie, a soothing hot chocolate evening drink, a clear refreshing flavoured water with fibre, and a satisfying flavoured water with fibre and protein. The beverage prototypes also contain SPLENDA® Sucralose, the no-calorie sweetener that is made from sugar, tastes like sugar, but is not sugar.

Tate Lyle will also be sampling a dip containing PinnoThin™ from Lipid Nutrition – a natural pine nut oil that has been reported to help curb the desire to eat by promoting a feeling of satiety (fullness) and helping to reduce the excessive consumption of calories.

Dr Sandra Einerhand, Director Health Nutritional Sciences, Europe, will be making two presentations at the show.

6th May 2008 – 12:10-12:45 – Fibre Gut Health Vitafoods International Conference (pre-booking required) Dietary fibres can help to improve digestive health and the immune response by stimulating the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. The effects of fibres reach far beyond the intestinal tract. The effect on health is dependent on the type of fibre consumed and Dr Sandra Einerhand will examine the effects of different soluble and insoluble fibres on gut health, appetite suppression, glycemia/insulinemia and systemic immunomodulation, among others.

7th May 2008 – 15:10-15:40 – Consumers, Fibre Health Supplier Seminar Theatre – Show Floor (free to attend) Dr Sandra Einerhand’ s presentation will cover European consumer attitudes towards fibre, the benefits of fibre in gut health as well as wellness positioning benefits. Dr Einerhand will also introduce Tate Lyle’s new PROMITOR™ range of dietary fibres, give examples of ENRICH™ applications containing PROMITOR™ Dietary Fibre, as well as highlighting the benefits of FRUCTAMYL fructose and SPLENDA® Sucralose in fibre-enriched reduced-calorie wellness products.
