On April 25-26, the United States and Chile will explore new areas for scientific cooperation and discuss technology innovation and researcher exchanges at the fourth Joint Commission Meeting on Science and Technology Cooperation in Santiago, Chile. The meeting, which is held under the auspices of the U.S.-Chile Science and Technology Agreement, monitors progress on and identifies new areas for scientific cooperation.　 

Jonathan Margolis, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Science, Space, and Health in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, will lead the U.S. delegation. Dr. José Miguel Aguilera, President of Chile’s National Commission for Scientific Research and Technology, will lead the Chilean delegation. 

Representatives from the National Science Foundation, U.S. Geological Survey, National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense, and Department of State will meet with their Chilean counterparts to discuss mechanisms to enhance basic science research, natural hazards mitigation, and cancer research.　 

Since signing the U.S.-Chile Science and Technology Agreement in May 1992, three Joint Commission meetings have taken place, resulting in collaboration in Agriculture and Food Safety, Astronomy, Energy, Health, Earth Science, Climate Change, and Forensic Science. The last Joint Commission Meeting took place in 2009 in Washington, D.C.
