Hear Mark Frauenfelder on maker innovations at ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO - Mark Frauenfelder, prolific author, founding editor-in-chief of MAKE magazine and founder of Boing Boing, will update 2013 ALA Annual Conference attendees on the latest maker innovations in a special session from 1 - 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1.
After offering a brief and colorful history of 19th- and 20th-century making, Frauenfelder plans to present the new tools and technologies driving innovation and giving individuals and small groups the ability to create amazing things that would have been out of their reach just a few years ago. Creating access to these tools and materials as well as the opportunity to share and collaborate with others is essential to the maker experience. Frauenfelder will also present new, inexpensive and effective ways to conduct research and development, design prototypes and set up manufacturing in makerspaces in libraries and other places.
Frauenfelder is the founding editor-in-chief of MAKE magazine (http://makezine.com) and the founder of Boing Boing (http://boingboing.net). He's the former editor-in-chief of Wired Online and was an editor at Wired magazine and Wired Books from 1993-1998. He was Playboy magazine's technology columnist for three years. He has appeared on The Colbert Report (twice) and the Martha Stewart Show and has written for The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Popular Science, Business Week, The Hollywood Reporter, Wired and other national publications.
In addition to Frauenfelder’s talk, maker innovations and their impact on libraries are featured in several other ways at Annual Conference. The latest ideas and programming will be highlighted in a preconference as well as in various programs and sessions during the conference. In the Exhibit Hall, look for the Maker Pavilion and Interactive Demo Area throughout the conference, as well as the Maker Showcase in the special events area of the Exhibit Hall on Monday, July 1.
