CHICAGO — A new edition of an ALA bestseller, “The Whole School Library Handbook 2,” published by ALA Editions, remains an indispensable all-in-one resource for everything related to the school library media center. Edited by Blanche Woolls and David V. Loertscher, this handbook offers articles from dozens of respected authors and experts, culled from journals such as Knowledge Quest and School Library Journal, covering everything of interest to the contemporary school librarian, including:

  • Information on collection development and school library resources such as books, periodicals, e-mail discussion groups, databases, websites and more;

Woolls is the director and professor emerita of the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University. She has been an elementary school librarian and a district level coordinator of school libraries before managing the school library credential program at the University of Pittsburgh. Her articles have appeared in publications such as School Library Journal, Knowledge Quest and School Library Monthly. Her books include “The School Library Media Manager,” currently in its third edition.

Loertscher is a professor at San Jose State University’s School of Library and Information Science, where he manages the school library media teacher credential program. He also has taught at Purdue University, Oklahoma University and the University of Arkansas, where he was the program director. He has spoken at library and education conferences around the world, including the International Association of School Librarianship, IFLA, and ALISE.

Both authors are past-presidents of AASL and both have been honored with its Distinguished Service Award. They have collaborated on several books and other projects and have both consulted and spoken at international conferences.
