MAST Appoints John Meekin MBE to Support the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Business

John Meekin, EOD Superintendent

/EINPresswire.com/ MAST (‘Maritime Asset Security and Training’) Ltd (www.mast-commercial.com), the leading maritime security and piracy protection specialist, has hired former Royal Navy EOD specialist, John Meekin, as the EOD Superintendent to support its Unexploded Ordnance business in the UK and help launch a service for handling and disposing of time-expired maritime pyrotechnics under MAST EOD’s new Miscellaneous Pyrotechnics for Disposal (MPFD) framework.

The comprehensive service which is structured to support the commercial industry, marine leisure and ship owners, will be fully compliant and in line with UK and EU Legislation. It will allow MAST's team of former Royal Navy explosive specialists to collect and safely incinerate expired maritime pyrotechnics, with waste ash then sent to a specialist waste management company. At the core of the scheme is the aspiration to improve safety and awareness of pyrotechnic hazards when such pyrotechnics need disposing of. This will be delivered as an inclusive part of the service to commercial clients in support of the proposed MPFD service.

John will work with MAST’s EOD Director, Richard Battrick, to help deliver EOD maritime ordnance survey, bomb disposal and training services. MAST trains personnel and military teams to search, locate and identify explosive remnants of war in both maritime and land-based environments. This includes risk managed services in support of land construction projects, inshore and offshore installations, port operations and the energy industry at sea. MAST’s Risk Mitigation framework encompasses detailed UXO threat and risk assessments, strategic risk management options and the implementation of mitigation and design specifications.

John spent over 26 years with the Royal Navy, was awarded an MBE for his work as Second-in-Command for the UK's busiest military EOD unit and made a key contribution to the Royal Navy's Maritime Force Protection procedures in line with the evolving maritime terrorist threat.

Richard Battrick, the EOD Technical Director at MAST stated:

"We are delighted that John has joined the team at MAST. He is a highly experienced and qualified EOD manager, trainer and diving specialist who is held in the highest regard. Furthermore, his C-IED experience and broad range of successful operational roles, including relevant commercial experience, makes him uniquely qualified to help us to continue to develop the delivery of EOD services to our clients.

In particular, we believe that the new MPFD service for the disposal of time-expired pyrotechnics will be of great benefit to the maritime community. It will ensure that owners of leisure boats and commercial vessels comply with the legal statutory guidance for the safe, timely disposal of marine flares and other pyrotechnics that have reached the end of their useable life cycle.”
