CHICAGO — The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is seeking a volunteer editor for its peer-reviewed online research journal, School Library Research (SLR). The responsibilities of the editor include setting the scope and tone of the journal, managing editorial activities and the refereeing process and soliciting high-quality articles. The volunteer editor will serve an initial three-year appointment starting at the end of the 2013 ALA Annual Conference and running through the 2016 ALA Annual Conference. Reappointment after the initial term is possible, with a maximum term of service of 10 years. A travel stipend is available for optional attendance at ALA Midwinter Meetings and ALA Annual Conferences.

The purpose of SLR is to promote and publish high-quality original research concerning the management, implementation and evaluation of school library programs. The journal emphasizes research on instructional theory, teaching methods, and critical issues relevant to school libraries and school librarians. The primary audience for SLR includes academic scholars, school librarians, instructional specialists and other educators who strive to provide a constructive learning environment for all students and teachers.

School Library Research (ISSN: 2165-1019) is the successor to School Library Media Research (ISSN: 1523-4320) and School Library Media Quarterly Online. The journal is peer-reviewed and indexed by H. W. Wilson's Library Literature and by the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information.

The American Association of School Librarians, www.aasl.org, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), promotes the improvement and extension of library services in elementary and secondary schools as a means of strengthening the total education program. Its mission is to advocate excellence, facilitate change and develop leaders in the school library field.
