Judge Richard Posner and Sen. George Mitchell to Speak at ABA Dispute Resolution Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 25, 2013 — Richard A. Posner, a judge on the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, will discuss judicial decision-making and the economics of negotiation during the 15th Annual Spring Conference of the American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution April 3-6 in Chicago.

Posner will also discuss his new book, The Behavior of Federal Judges: A Theoretical and Empirical Study of Rational Choice, at 8:15 a.m. April 4 at the conference at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park.

At 8:15 a.m. April 5, former U.S. Sen. George J. Mitchell (D-Maine) will speak and receive an award for outstanding service in dispute resolution. Mitchell, once named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, served as the U.S. special envoy for Middle East peace and U.S. special envoy for Northern Ireland, among other outstanding contributions to the field.

The Section of Dispute Resolution is the world’s largest association of dispute resolution professionals with nearly 19,000 professionals. The Chicago meeting represents the first time that the Section’s Spring Conference will be in the Midwest.
