In November 2009, after signing the relevant agreement with the Royal Spanish Football Federation, IBERDROLA became the main sponsor of Spain´s National Football Team and the official sponsor of the football kits for Senior and U-21 national teams.

Under the terms of this agreement, which IBERDROLA has already extended until the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the Company aims to promote the commitment it shares with Spain´s National Football Team: teamwork, responsibility, effort and perseverance to become international leaders.

As Ignacio Galán, Chairman of IBERDROLA, pointed out on the occasion of the signing, which was held at the Ciudad del Fútbol (Football City) complex in Las Rozas, “we are very proud to contribute all our energy towards supporting the National Football Team and associating our brand to an extraordinary team that represents all of us and is an excellent ambassador of a dynamic, competitive and modern Spain to which we are firmly committed".

Over the years, this contract has given the Company various audiovisual rights, for pitch-side advertising, promotions and public relations, as well as the possibility of including its logo on the football kit of Senior and U-21 national football teams. 

Iberdrola has benefited from preferential rights for advertising slots on television during the matches of the Spanish National Football Team. It has also been able to include its logo on the pitch sides and training grounds, on the team's merchandising and on the official websites.

Iberdrola was together with Spain´s national team at the most decisive moments in its history: the 2010 World Cup tournament, where the team achieved the pinnacle of its success, by winning the World Cup in South Africa, and the UEFA EURO 2012 championship, hosted in Poland and the Ukraine, which made the Spanish team the first ever to win three major tournaments in a row: UEFA European Championship - World Cup - UEFA European Championship.

Ignacio Galán visited the members of the national team during the aforementioned international championships and more recently, in Qatar, encouraging them to rise to the next challenge ahead: the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He explained that with the talent, sacrifice and bravery of the players and the expertise of Vicente de Bosque as coach, the national team would continue to aspire to the highest honours.  

IBERDROLA's support for the national team is proof of its general commitment to sport. For example, in 2004 it became one of the main sponsors of Spanish sailing, when the Company agreed to sponsor the Spanish Challenge in the 22nd edition of the America's Cup, which was held in the city of Valencia in 2007.  The Company also collaborates with the Spanish Paralympic Committee, by helping to integrate athletes in the labour market and supporting Paralympic sailing.
