Kolderup wins YALSA/ABC-CLIO/Greenwood Service to Young Adults Achievement Award

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) awarded the YALSA/ABC-CLIO/Greenwood Service to Young Adults Achievement Award to Gretchen Kolderup. The $2,000 award, given every other year, recognizes a YALSA member who has demonstrated unique and sustained devotion to young adult services through substantial work in several initiatives.
“It's such an honor to know that my enthusiasm for doing work I love is inspiring to others and to know that I'm having an impact both in the local community my library serves and in my wider professional community,” Kolderup said. “ believe whole-heartedly in the power a library can have in a teen's life, and I feel so lucky to have found this profession and such devoted colleagues and to have the opportunity to make a difference in the world.”
“Ms. Kolderup encourages those around her to renew their passion of libraries and information, achieve their goals, generate change and new ideas, and foster a workplace full of enthusiasm, teamwork and research,” wrote Mary Sorhus in Kolderup’s nomination. “She spends both her professional and personal hours promoting teens, young adult library services and the future and importance of libraries.”
Kolderup, who is also the current blog manager of YALSA’s blog, The Hub, plans to donate half of the award money to Camp Interactive, a nonprofit that connects urban teens with nature and technology, and will use the other half to attend and present at local and national conferences.
