UKOOA appoints Steve Harris as Director of Communications.

UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Harris to the new post of Director of Communications.

Steve has joined UKOOA from Consumers Association, where he has been Communications Director for the past two years. He joins the organisation during a period of considerable change and a renewed commitment to communication under new Director-General James May, who moved from the British Retail Consortium six months ago.

Steve Harris comments, I am delighted to be joining UKOOA at such an exciting time. The reputation of the offshore oil and gas industry is vital to its continued success, just as the industry itself is vital to Britains continued economic welfare.

The public has scant knowledge of the industry when one considers that it is responsible for 20 % of the UKs industrial investment, year on year. It is our job to put that right.

Director-General James May adds, I am very pleased to have been able to recruit Steve. We needed someone who understood the importance of reputation management to lead our new communications strategies. He also has the recent experience of seeing the world from the consumers perspective which is important.

One of Steves first tasks is to recruit an Assistant Director of Communications whose primary responsibility will be focus on political and governmental audiences.

UKOOA is the representative organisation for the British offshore oil and gas industry. Its Members are the companies licensed by the Government to explore for and produce oil and gas in UK waters.
