North Sea Oil industry engages in its first advertising campaign

Thursday, 19 March - Major companies involved in producing oil and gas from the North Sea today launch their first joint advertising campaign, aimed at the public to explain the enormous scope of the benefits provided to society by oil.

The campaign, branded North Sea Oil - We all get a lot out of it, features a variety of products derived from oil and is designed to remind people of the vital everyday uses of oil, in addition to fuel. A series of advertisements is being piloted in Scotland using newspapers and billboards for eight weeks from today. The campaign also gives the consumer the opportunity to find out more about the contribution that oil and gas companies make to their lives and to the UK economy. Direct response mechanisms and the Internet site www.northseaoil.co.uk will enable consumers to receive more detailed information about oil-derived products, the economy and the environment in which the industry operates.

The advertising campaign is being co-ordinated by the UK Offshore Operators Association Limited (UKOOA) on behalf of its members. James May, Director-General of UKOOA said, The UKs offshore oil and gas industry has made a commitment to improve its communications with the general public. Research has shown that, although people know little about our business, there is recognition of Britains most successful post-war industry and a desire to understand more about our activities, and the benefits that the offshore oil industry brings to the UK at large.
