Key Appointments Bolster London Secretariat Team

UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA) has further strengthened its team of key personnel with the appointment of two new senior members of staff, David Odling as Assistant Director Policy and Nigel Essex as Company Secretary. Both will take up their posts on 1 November.

David Odling succeeds Michael Knowles, who left to join Premier Oil earlier this year. David is a Mechanical Engineer who has worked with GEC and, since 1977, with AOC International (now Brown and Root AOC). He is currently their Business Development Director.

He is a past Chairman and currently on the Board of the Offshore Contractors Association. He also served on the HSCs Oil Industry Advisory Committee and is also a non-executive member of the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board. David has also been a leading player in the CRINE initiative.

David commented, I am delighted to take up this newly expanded role within UKOOA, with its wide responsibilities for policy and related legislative and environmental matters.

Nigel Essex succeeds Chris Volk and is also from an engineering background. He has spent 29 years with AMOCO, latterly as Treasurer and Economics Manager.

He is a past chairman of the UKOOA Fiscal Committee (1990) and Legislation Committee (1989). Over the last 15 months he has played a key role on UKOOAs Fiscal Task Group that co-ordinated the industrys presentation to government during the recent fiscal review. In addition to his role as Company Secretary, Nigel will also become the Secretariats economic advisor.

Nigel said, The UK offshore oil and gas industry is one of the key sectors underpinning the British economy. It supports nearly 400,000 jobs and annually attracts £4 billion worth of investment. High costs and low oil prices make this a challenging time to join UKOOA but I look forward to playing my part in safeguarding this valuable national asset into the next century."

UKOOAs Director General, James May, added, I am delighted that we have been able to recruit such outstanding and experienced individuals to join UKOOA. We now have a first class team which will be well placed to serve the industry in tackling the major issues in the challenging times ahead.
