UKOOA Publishes Second Environment Report

The second industry-wide Environment Report for the UK offshore oil and gas sector has been published by the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA).

The publication builds on the Industrys first Report last year and re-emphasises the Industrys commitment to greater openness and transparency in its affairs and, in particular, its stewardship of the environment in which it works.

The Report provides information on industry regulation and research as well as the facts and figures related to emissions and discharges. Also included, for the first time, are UKOOAs environmental commitments and a section looking forward to future environmental issues.

In launching the Report James May, Director-General of UKOOA, commented, UKOOAs second annual Environment Report demonstrates significant progress on our first publication. Having listened to those who commented on last years edition, we have been able to make this Report far more comprehensive and have paid special attention to providing more information on the impacts that our emissions and discharges have upon the environment.

Whilst the Report also demonstrates some significant areas of improved performance, we realise that there is no room for complacency. Once again we welcome comments from those who take an interest in our industrys environmental performance and will strive to improve our reporting further next year.

We believe that the Report demonstrates that we take our responsibilities to the environment very seriously and that we are able to bring enormous benefits to society whilst behaving in an environmentally responsive manner. A good environment and a thriving UK oil and gas industry are not incompatible.
