Cupcakes are expected to be the fastest growing part of the baked goods industry for the next couple of years, according to research firm Mintel. Now, General Mills has devised a little twist on the cupcake – the frosting is inside.
Among the new Betty Crocker brand products this summer are Fun da-middles - cupcakes with a creamy filling that is specially designed to bake inside the cupcake.
Importantly, they are easy to prepare, which helps to feed families in motion.
According to the 2010 survey, 72 percent of snacks taken on the go were prepared in the home, and with the frosting on the inside, Fun da-middles are easy to pack in lunches.
Also, product packaging features Box Tops for Education, one of the larger education-focused loyalty programs in the U.S. People who clip Box Tops can earn money for their schools.
Fun da-middles come in three varieties: Chocolate Cupcake with Vanilla Filling, Yellow Cupcake with Chocolate Filling, and Yellow Cupcake with Vanilla Filling.
Brownie, cookie mixes Also from Betty Crocker, Milk Chocolate Traditional Brownie Mix and Molasses Cookie Mix are in stores now.
With fudge and dark chocolate mixes dominating the shelves, scratch brownie bakers who are looking for lighter flavored, traditional brownies will appreciate the milk chocolate version.
Packaged molasses cookies are popular on grocers' shelves, and they are also in demand at coffee shops.
Now Betty Crocker is offering a flavor not currently available in a cookie mix. Its molasses mix is made with real molasses, and carries hints of cinnamon and spice.
Whole grains
The Gold Medal heritage has earned the trust of both scratch and professional bakers since 1880. Now the leader in branded flour is making it even easier for consumers to add whole grain to their diets.
Stone ground whole wheat flour, milled from Montana hard spring wheat, offers the nutrition of whole wheat flour with a lighter taste and appearance in the new Gold Medal White Whole Wheat Flour.
Bisquick is also in on the whole grain action with its new Complete Pancake and Waffle Mix in Simply Buttermilk with Whole Grain flavor.
Consumers get the benefit of 12 grams of whole grain with no artificial colors or sweeteners, no hydrogenated oils or trans fat.
It doesn’t get any simpler for busy families to make pancakes or waffles for breakfast: just add water.
