DES MOINES, IOWA - Intoxalock, a company that provides innovative technology with its alcohol monitoring devices, celebrates two decades of helping fight drunk driving. Twenty years ago, in January 1993, Intoxalock installed its first car breathalyzer, now known as an ignition interlock device (IID).

"At Intoxalock, we are extremely proud to reach such an important milestone,” said Dave Arringdale, CEO. There is a high level of satisfaction that comes from knowing that we are helping with such a critical public safety issue. Fighting drunk driving through the application of our various technologies is important not only for the public at large, but also for the offender who can get back on the road safely and legally."

The Intoxalock is a discreet, hand-held alcohol sensor that tests a driver's breath to determine his or her blood alcohol content (BAC) and prohibits a vehicle from starting if the driver fails the test. The Intoxalock is primarily used by people who are legally required to have an IID because of a drunk-driving violation. However, more and more individuals and businesses are voluntarily installing the devices as a way of preventing a potential drunk driving arrest or tragedy.

Intoxalock currently offers three device options: their original ignition interlock device known as the Legacy model; the Intoxalock Mobile eLERT™, which features advanced wireless capabilities including GPS, photo imaging, and real-time reporting; and a similar eLERT model that allows for in-home monitoring.

The company is an industry leader in many respects including its technology and accolades received. Intoxalock offers 24-hour customer service in its technical department, and has more than 1,100 installation centers nationwide. In addition, Intoxalock also assists in finding legal aid, treatment facilities, and driving schools.

About Intoxalock: In conjunction with researchers at Iowa State University, Consumer Safety Technology LLC (CST) developed the Intoxalock® using alcohol-specific fuel cell technology in 1992. CST was the first company to use this cutting-edge technology, which is now an ignition interlock industry standard. In 2010, CST added advanced features within the Intoxalock eLERT™ products and today, continues to actively work to advance the IID industry with technology that suits the needs of various federal and state requirements.
