Despite serious concerns for safety, Tamils are also organizing a rally in Jaffna on December 4th. Several Tamil Parliamentarians are joining this rally.

On May 27th, The Sri Lankan Security forces stormed Jaffna University, when students were peacefully assembled to remember those who were killed by the Sri Lanka Security forces. Several students were injured. Sri Lankan Security forces also entered women's dormitories.

Sri Lankan troops raided the homes of student leaders and arrested at least four student leaders. There are concerns that these student leaders may be tortured in custody.

The military is roaming in and around the Jaffna University hunting for students. Students are leaving the dormitories to save themselves. A Tamil Parliamentarian was attacked who tried to stop military abuse and journalists were beaten up for taking pictures.

As soon as the attack took place, TGTE Primime Minister Mr . Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran urged UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to take steps to protect Jaffna University students.

Sri Lankan Security forces have a history of mass killing of Tamils and raping Tamil women. According to UN at least 40,000 Tamils were killed by the Sri Lankan Security forces. Sri Lankan Security Forces have been accused by a UN Panel and several international organizations of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity and urged for an international commission of inquiry.
