Organizations Rally to Raise Awareness for World Diabetes Day, American Diabetes Month

/EINPresswire.com/ To commemorate World Diabetes Day on November 14, as well as American Diabetes Month throughout November, organizations are organizing events and promotions to raise awareness for diabetes.

More than 346 million people around the world are living with diabetes, the World Health Organization estimates, and that number is expected to more than double by 2030 barring any intervention.

To commemorate World Diabetes Day on Nov. 14, the International Diabetes Federation is encouraging organizations to light up in blue to raise awareness for diabetes. More than 1,000 monuments and buildings across the globe have lit up blue for diabetes, and organizations interested in lighting their building blue can visit the IDF website to let the organization know about their plans. IDF is also encouraging individuals and organizations to assemble a flash mob using the blue circle as the theme to the performance.

In addition to events occurring on World Diabetes Day, organizations are raising awareness throughout the month of November to support American Diabetes Month. Through its wellness+ for diabetes program, drugstore chain Rite Aid is offering free wellness consultations from Rite Aid pharmacists who have special training in diabetes management. The program also offers savings throughout the year on many common diabetes products, as well as free health screenings at 600 stores throughout the country.

In conjunction with the rewards program, Rite Aid will be selling $1 paper pinups in its stores to support the American Diabetes Association's Stop Diabetes movement. The company and its customers have raised more than $2 million to date to benefit diabetes research and raise awareness.

Not to be outdone, CVS/pharmacy has agreed to sponsor American Diabetes Month through the "A Day in the Life of Diabetes" program. The "A Day in the Life of Diabetes" program encourages people to share personal messages or images on the American Diabetes Association's Facebook page, explaining what a day living with diabetes means to them. To encourage participation, CVS/pharmacy is offering a $1 donation to the American Diabetes Association for every image uploaded, up to $25,000.

Medical ID Marketplace, a Hope Paige Designs company, is also doing its part to raise awareness for American Diabetes Month. The company is holding a product giveaway for three of its medical ID bracelets. Unlike traditional silver medical ID bracelets, Hope Paige offers stylish alternatives to traditional medical alert jewelry and can be fully customizable for the person's specific medical needs. In addition to the medical ID bracelets, the company offers pendants, dog tags, and even watches as alternatives to the medical ID bracelets.
