Virginia – Former college lacrosse player George Huguely V was sentenced on Thursday in the killing of his ex-girlfriend. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Huguely, who is a former athlete for the University of Virginia, was sentenced to 23 years for killing Yeardley Love in 2010.
Huguely had reportedly been drinking on the night of the incident before Love was found having been battered. The two University of Virginia seniors had allegedly had a volatile relationship while they were dating.
Charlottesville Circuit Judge Edward Hogshire is quoted by the AP as stating to the court of the case, “Unlike Ms. Love, Mr. Huguely still has the majority of his life ahead of him.”
