Local Attorney, Michael L. Barras, lends his support to the Iberia Humane Society fundraising event.

Barras, A Professional Law Corporation, will be acting as a sponsor at the annual fundraising party held by the Angel Paws Adoption Center in collaboration with the Iberia Humane Society.
Barras chose to support the event after finding that the Iberia Humane Society is a non-profit, non-government organization. This means that the shelter covers all of their expenses mainly from fundraising, grants, and donations.
"The shelter and adoption center serve an important function in the community. The Angel Paws Adoption Center is one of the few remaining no-kill animal shelters and the fact that they ensure each animal's health before releasing them is a shining star on their record. I know that the Iberia Humane Society functions almost entirely on a volunteer and donation basis so I knew I had to help where I could," said Barras.
The event will be catered by Cypress Bayou Casino and event programs will be organized by the organizational committee. Senator Fred Mills will be hosting a live auction and a silent auction is also scheduled featuring items donated by local businesses. Rhythm and blues band, Cocodrie, will provide added entertainment for the event.
The Angel Paws Adoption Center examines, updates all vaccinations and spays, or neuters all pets that enter their faculties before releasing them. Each year the center services well over 500 animals. This care places the veterinary expenses alone at over $20,000.
The Angel Paws Adoption Center is unique in that they do not euthanize animals to make room for more. This ensures that all healthy, adoptable animals remain at the center until they find permanent homes.
