Gary Lee Jeffries Band Headlines the Monticello MainStreet Tour - Music Fest, July 27

Gary Lee Jeffries, known for his down-to-earth honesty, emblazoned in his songs of true American grit with Southern rock and Cajun flavor, is riding into Monticello at full throttle to headline the MainStreet Tour - Music Fest with his band of "stellar" players on Friday, July 27. Fueled by passion and pride, he returns to his hometown roots, that he claims is, "the very heartland of middle class America" to throw a street party of epic proportion.

This year, Jeffries showcases his band that he considers "top-class, American Midwest player": Brett "Hoss" Mullins, "fret-smokin" lead guitar; Steve "Fletch" Fletcher, "greasy-blues" bass guitar; Gary John Higgins, "dynamic piano and synth", who joins the band following a 2.5 year US tour with an American Idol finalist; and Randy Trent, "rock hard" velocity drums. "This gritty greasy, blues Southern rock band is ready to 'smoke' Monticello and raise the spirit of this American backbone community to its feet", proclaims Jeffries, who straight out, "wants his voice heard" to evoke change.

Jeffries returns to town with more rant raves under his belt. He is best known for his hard hitting vocals with former bands, Asphalt Ballet (Virgin Records) and Alligator Stew and their award winning music videos "Soul Survive" (MTV & Headbangers' Ball) and "Blood Money" (CMT, GAC-TV), respectively, along with songs featured in TV (HBOs "True Blood" & "Weeds", Hallmark's "A Time to Remember") and film (Charlie Sheen, "Beyond the Law"). He is reputed as a "… singer of the first rank", by Luc Brunot, writer for French rock magazine, Bands of Dixie (Brunot, 2011; No. 80), and is marked by C.J. Plain, DJ of Back Roads Radio, as a musician who is "… full of grit, determination, and never say die attitude" (Plain, 2012).

At the turn of 2012, this tenacious Southern rocker took a double take, not only when Bands of Dixie ran a seven page feature story, 'Gary Jeffries, Middle Class Man' (Brunot, 2011; No. 83), but when the magazine's avid readers voted him 2011's Best Artist, Best Vocalist with Best Album ("Middle Class Man") in their notorious annual poll, announced in "Referendum 2011" (Demesley, 2012; No. 84). Why did the people favor this Hoosier-grown, singer-songwriter, by a wide margin, over such giants as Greg Allman, Warren Haynes, Johnny van Zant, Doc Holliday and other famed artists of the genre? Perhaps Lars Schuckar, writer of Germany's Idioglosia Musikreviews states it best, "What Gary Jeffries gets out of his throat is truly intoxicating. He just has a cool, raspy voice that goes to the marrow" (Schuckar, 2011). Luc Brunot, DJ of France's, Sweet Home Music, touts Jeffries as being "… an endearing rocker, an honest and uncompromising artist who doesn't calculate and who gives all to the music he loves"(Brunot, 2012). Acclaims are echoed from the U.S. hard rock and heavy metal magazine, Sleaze Roxx that critiques Jeffries' album as "one of the most heart-felt hard hittin southern rock CD's of the times" (Sleaze Roxx, 2011), and German fanzine, RockTimes, whose writer, Daniel Daus, makes the appraise, "Gary Jeffries plea for the middle class has been absolutely top class. "Middle Class Man" is for me, one of the best Southern Rock albums of the millennium" (Daus, 2011).

CHANGE
But, for Jeffries, a music man of personal integrity, it's all about change. "I ache for my friends and neighbors. I feel strong about my single, "Middle Class Man". In this song, I raise my voice for the people. I want change for the young and hard-working middle class." He further explains, "I myself know how hard it is to make it in these days. Many employers are taking advantage of the job shortages and making us do more work for less, or threatening that they will ship our jobs overseas. I'm not getting political here, but I just need to say my peace. Through music and video, I can get my message across about the 'real life' plight of the good men and women, going on around me, right now in the Midwest and across our country." He upholds, "It is our forefathers and mothers who built this great nation into what it is, by their toil with sweat off their backs. I dream that we can work together to problem solve and regain our middle class quality, standard of living." He concludes, "Let not our spirits go further down the rabbit hole. 'Let's bring it home' America, like I know we can! Join me in bringing pride and true music back to the streets."

If this is any indication as to what new career direction Jeffries will take, its straight into the rising sun over the next horizon, where he will surely invite you to come along for the ride.
