American Lung Association Welcomes Michael V. Carstens to National Board of Directors



Washington, D.C. (July 2, 2012) —

The American Lung Association is proud to welcome Mr. Michael V. Carstens as a member of its National Board of Directors. Mr. Carstens is Vice President of Physicians Mutual in Omaha, Neb., and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Lung Association Plains-Gulf Region. In his national leadership role, Mr. Carstens will further support the American Lung Association’s lifesaving mission.

His commitment to excellence coupled with his passion for public health will enhance the American Lung Association’s efforts to prevent lung disease and improve lung health,” said Ross P. Mr. Carstens first joined the American Lung Association eight years ago as a volunteer in Nebraska. During this time, he worked to expand the organization’s reach throughout the community. In addition to serving as a Board Member of the American Lung Association Plains-Gulf Region, Mr. Castens has also held positions as an Asthma Walk Team Captain, a Leadership Council member, and a Nomination Committee Chairman. From 2009 to 2010, he served as Chairman of the Board and Board Development Committee Chairman for the American Lung Association of the Central States.
In his current role as a pricing actuary at Physicians Mutual, Mr. Carstens is responsible for the design, development and management of hospitalization, dental and Medicare Supplement insurance products. In addition, Mr. Carstens works extensively with distribution areas to promote the company’s products. As part of his work, Mr. Carstens is also a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and is a member of the organization’s Medicare Steering Committee.
