Imagine you’re watching the evening news, kicking back after a long day in the cubicle. Suddenly a breaking news alert flashes across the screen: “Military Coup Overthrows the Government.” What would be your reaction?
While most Americans say they can’t imagine supporting a takeover of the government by the armed forces, or least aren’t sure about it, a substantial number of people say they can imagine supporting the military in such a scenario.
Lawmakers better shape up or they might be shipped out -- literally.
In her recent book, “Drain the Swamp,” Dr Chris Tingle points out a startling number of potential upsides to what could happen in an America ruled by the military. In a Skype interview she outlines her case.
“We Americans are going through the most divisive election cycle since the birth of this great nation. Let us not forget that that our military and militias gave us our freedom in the first place. Our constitution suggests it is our collective responsibility to ensure that a Government must be for the people, by the people. This simply is no longer the case in this once great country.”
She adjusts the camera and continues. I cannot help but be impressed at her sincerity. “This country is being run by the wealthy 1%, it is being bought by the corporations, by Wall Street and big media. When our democracy is dead, our military must, according to our constitution, restore it.”
I asked her what she envisaged. “Recently four star General, Wesley Clark presented the case and method required to seize control of the Federal government. Although his reasons for the coup differ from mine (he was more concerned with our foreign misadventures than our domestic ones) he made it clear that it is both possible and imperative. I believe that following this election patriots in our military must step up and take this country forward again. Our corrupt political system is holding this country back and is holding ordinary people down.
I ask her how she expects the military to help. “Many people are going to very angry on November 9th, we are going to have massive unrest on the streets through swathes of this nation. We will see protest and destabilisation. The military must not confront our people, it must confront the forces behind the problem, it must confront the government and restore the nation back to We the People. Trump may be wrong about various things but he is correct. The swamp must be drained.”
“Think of America now as a rigged system whose corruption can only fully be exposed by declaring the old dollar to be extinct, dead, and requiring all holders of assets, commodities, and cash to submit an audited accounting of the source of wealth in order to apply to have their assets returned and their cash returned as Eagle Cash.
Eagle Cash evolved from the Military Payment Certificates (MPCs) used by the U.S. in the Vietnam and Korean wars, that in turn evolved from Allied Military Currency as a response to the large amounts of US Dollars circulated by American servicemen in post-World War II Europe. The U.S. military devised an alternate currency to reduce profiteering from corrupt currency arbitrage and because the local citizens might not trust local currencies, as the future of the government was unclear. This is similar to the lack of trust and uncertainty we have within our America crisis right now.
So the first task for a military government is to require all US currency to be exchanged for Eagle Dollars. Use it or lose it.
The second task is to ensure any remaining corrupt cash is removed entirely from the political system. No more lobbyists, no more buying favors, and in short time new politics will emerge, immunised against corrupt forces. No donations, no foundations… Removal of the power of money from politics.
The media will be reined in, after a brief period of totally being closed down. We cannot continue to allow corporations to use propaganda to influence our governments of the future. The state has a role in re-establishing the media as a force for truth and understanding, not as a mouthpiece for the corrupt.
