Get A Hair Cut, Help A Great Cause

Join Hair We Share's "Make The Cut" Challenge and sponsor the wig your hair will be used to create. Hair We Share provides free wigs to children and adults.

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, NY, USA, April 2, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Hair We Share a Roslyn Heights-based charity provides custom wigs to disadvantaged children and adults with medical hair loss through the use of donated ponytails and financial contributions, introduces their “Make the Cut” challenge.

Participants are encouraged to seek sponsors for their ponytail donations by starting a customized fundraiser page and to challenge their friends and family to “Make the Cut” by donating their own hair or contribute toward the participants fundraiser.

Donating hair is a simple act, but the impact can be profound, explains Suzanne Chimera, founder and head designer of Hair We Share. “Most of our recipients are children with alopecia. They often have been bullied in school and are emotionally fragile, and as they watch their campaign for hair donations grow, their faith in humanity becomes restored,” Chimera says. “It’s difficult to put into words the feeling the recipient has after a whole community of people come together to make them feel beautiful. Their self-confidence skyrockets -- they no longer need to hide from the world.”

Thanks to social media, hair donors get the unique opportunity to see firsthand the difference they make in recipients’ lives. “We match wig recipients to ponytail donors through our Facebook page. The donors and recipients get to see each other, at the discretion of the recipient of course.” says Chimera.

The experience is unforgettable: “One woman who was battling breast cancer told me she loves to tell others about all of the people her hair came from, and the fact that some of it came from her daughter makes her feel like her daughter is always with her.”

Hair We Share is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit that strives to ease the financial burden of purchasing a comfortable, natural-looking custom wig for those who suffer medical hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, brain surgery and other causes.
