SOMERSET WEST, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA, March 24, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- CEO of BRH, Mr Richard Davies, is proud to announce the launch of Trimesemine™, their Sceletium tortuosum based, patent pending active nutraceutical ingredient. Trimesemine™, which has been formulated to deliver stable, dose-specific results, is now available commercially for use in a number of applications from Dietary Supplements to Nutraceutical Ingredient (ANI)

History of the main ingredient

Sceletium tortuosum is a small succulent found originally in the southern tip of Africa, with the most pharmacologically viable variety originating exclusively from the South eastern part of the Western Cape.

Sceletium has long been documented as a warm, fast-acting, natural mood-enhancer that has the ability to diminish social anxiety and physical pain alike. Unlike alcohol, cannabis, opioids or the like, Sceletium has been shown not to cause any physical or mental harm, even at relatively high doses.

Written accounts dating back to 1662 indicate that Sceletium was used as a bartering currency, local remedy and was soon held in high esteem by Europeans as a herb similar to ginseng - in 1738 Kolben said of Sceletium: “it’s the greatest cheerer of spirits and the noblest restorative in the world”.

Traditionally consumed by the indigenous Khoe folk, the prepared dried plant material was chewed, smoked and used as snuff. It has also been made into teas and tinctures and even used in rural areas as a treatment for colic in infants. This practice still survives in some local Khoe communities today!

Trimesemine™

Trimesemine™ is an exciting new fourth generation patent pending Sceletium based product designed to deliver stable, dose specific results across diverse delivery systems.
“Recent studies have also shown that Trimesemine™ may be instrumental in facilitating the release of serotonin, which is vital in regulating a number of neurotransmitters in the brain and responses related to mood, anxiety, stress and mental clarity”, says Davies.

Extensive research to-date has revealed remarkable results with in-vitro studies on toxicology and steroidogenesis.

Trimesemine™ significantly decreases adrenal cortisol synthesis and provides an increase in DHEAs (dehydroepiandrosterone-sulphate). The anti-stress effect observed in the Cortisol data was not the result of a blanket inhibition of cell metabolism by Trimesemine™, but a true modulation of the steroid synthetic pathway - i.e. indicates specificity of action of Trimesemine™.

In terms of the aldosterone data, Trimesemine™ significantly decreased aldosterone levels. Since increased aldosterone is one of the major causes of hypertension, decreased levels suggest that Trimesemine™ might lower blood pressure. We are planning a follow-up study to further qualify these results with more relevant data.

Production

Trimesemine™ and its flagship product ‘TriSTILL™’ is produced under licence by our manufacturing partner, Verve Dynamics cc, who adheres to the most stringent international standards (including both cGMP certification and FDA registration) ensuring the high standard and exceptional quality of our products.

The BRH research and development process is methodical, controlled and thoroughly tested to ensure product effectiveness and safety. “Our academic and scientific collaboration with a number of respected and learned Institutions continually validate our findings”, says Davies.

BRH prides itself on the selection of only superior quality ingredients, substantiated with scientific research and source materials from contracted or sanctioned growers that incorporate Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and/or Good Harvesting Practices (GHP). “This ensures consistency that is unrivaled and excellent quality that, most importantly, is sustainable and has minimal impact on the environment for the foreseeable future,” says Davies.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Paramount Chief Dr. Richard Kutela and the Kai !Korana Community of the Western Cape have established a close relationship with BRH and Verve Dynamics over many years and have recently formalized this relationship by signing a Mutual Benefit Sharing Agreement.

Working with the Khoekhoe community spearheaded by Chief Dr. Kutela has educated and enlightened us through their oral tradition, enabling us through scientific research and this indigenous collaboration to have a more in-depth understanding of the true nature and benefits of Sceletium tortuosum specific to this area.

“The aim is to give back something tangible to the communities that introduced the world to this amazing plant” says Davies.

As part of our commitment and acknowledgement of the Kai !Korana community, BRH have also recently collaborated with Chief Dr. Kutela in establishing the !Khana Development Program [!Khana DevPro]. Chief Dr. Kutela announced, at the signing ceremony, “It is our mission to share our historic and traditional knowledge with the world, in good faith, to ensure the security and well being of all people without prejudice”.
