LCB, the Former Lead Vocalists of The Temptations, The Platters and The Drifters Salute Ohio Veterans

Singers Visit Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and Give Free Performance for Veterans and Their Families.

CLEVELAND, OH, USA, March 6, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Three former lead vocalists from legendary music groups brought their harmonies and their gratitude to Ohio veterans this past weekend. Glenn Leonard, Joe Coleman, and Joe Blunt the former lead vocalists of The Temptations, The Platters and The Drifters perform together collectively these days as LCB. The classic soul and R&B vocalists performed a free concert for veterans and their families at the Tri-C (Cuyahoga Community College) Auditorium located a few miles from The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, and spent the day before the concert visiting vets receiving treatment at Stokes.

Glenn Leonard, who recorded 10 albums and toured the world as the lead vocalist of Motown’s Temptations, said that the visit to the vets was a top priority for the group. “We had the honor not only to perform for our veterans in Cleveland, but also to visit with them and have one-on-one conversations with them at the VA Medical Center. It was kind of surreal when you see these guys who’ve put their lives on the line, and come back home wounded. It really clarifies the level of their contribution to keeping our country and it’s interests safe, and I was humbled by the experience.”

Joe Coleman enjoyed 16 years singing the Platters biggest hits including “The Great Pretender”, “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” and “Only You”, is himself a proud Air Force veteran. Joe served as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist from 1968 to1971. His fellow veterans remain near and dear to Coleman’s heart; “LCB was really excited to perform for such deserving troops, to be able to bring joy to this audience as we took them on a trip down memory lane, was such a great privilege.”

Former Drifters lead vocalist Joe Blunt was known for his richly textured vocal range during his decade in the group, often singing alongside original Drifters Ben E. King and Johnnie Moore. What most fans didn’t know is that Blunt was doing double duty during that time, as both a Drifter and a National Guard member, serving in the District of Columbia National Guard (DCNG) from 1972-1978. Blunt says that "this concert in Cleveland, and our visit to Stokes Medical Center the day before, was indeed a most rewarding experience. I have always had a tremendous degree of respect and admiration for all of our men and women in uniform. I feel a personal affinity to all who have answered the call. It was a great honor to be able to personally meet, greet, and perform for those who have so admirably served this nation, and sacrificed so much for all of us.“

The Stokes Medical Center visit wasn’t without levity, often at the expense of the veteran vocalists. When the now very bald Blunt introduced himself to one of the patients, the vet smiled up at him and said "Hey, didn't you used to have hair?” After the entire room burst into laughter, a mischievous smile came across the patient’s face. Blunt said that he admired that this veteran still maintained his sense of humor; even after all he had been through.

LCB asks that their fans and friends consider giving back to our veterans with gestures of kindness and gratitude. To find out more on how to get involved visit: www.va.gov/health or www.leonardcolemanandblunt.com.
