Out of Tragedy, Triumph
One day, she reached the end of her endurance, and actually had one leg over her balcony, contemplating suicide. The phone rang. She answered it, and a friend said, “Whatever you are about to do, God told me to tell you not to do it.”
With those words, Juliana began the slow road to recovery. Little was known about TBI in those days. But as our veterans returned from the Middle East, she read the accounts. “That sounds just like me,” she thought.
Meanwhile, she had been getting chiropractic treatment, slowly weaning herself off the pain medications. When her oldest son had a skating party for his birthday, she discovered that in the cold rink environment, she didn’t hurt. She had been a skater before her injury. She took it up again.
For a few days each week, she skated. She became a Skate Coach. She is working on adult tests, and hopes to compete again.
But there was still the problem of earning a living. She still could not work at a regular job, so she began writing. Juliana loves history, especially the history of Gettysburg. Out of that love, and out of her personal experience, has grown the five-volume Summer Ray historical fiction/fantasy series – the first of which became available on Amazon January 30, 2015.
But that still wasn’t enough to satisfy Juliana Love’s creativity – and her desire to help others. The first book in the series, Summer Ray—This Fair and Blighted Land, was originally published as a trade paperback in 2012. The plan is now to bring out the entire series as paperback and e-books as well as to create an epic film series entitled, “The Days of Providence,” based on the books. The story is seen through the eyes of a little girl, Summer Ray, whose dreams of a skating career have been destroyed by an auto accident and a traumatic head injury. As she struggles to overcome evil and to find love, she discovers an unseen world of ghosts and explores the past – beginning with Jamestown, and continuing through the present.
Juliana says that she loves happy endings – in real life as well as in fiction. Her recent book, Summer Ray No Matter What, is a self-help, inspirational book for everyone who has a crazy dream. It explores how the Summer Ray books came to be written, and offers suggestions to anyone who is trying to bootstrap themselves into success in spite of the odds.
The Days of Providence will focus on authentic era costuming and accurate historical data –except for the fantasy elements, of course. It will incorporate scenes with Special Olympics kids learning to skate. The young woman in Civil War costume shown on the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign page, will play one of the soldiers in the Civil War scenes. She describes herself as a “miracle baby” because she was never expected to thrive – let alone graduate from school.
You can learn more about the project by visiting the crowdfunding campaign page where you will have the opportunity to contribute to the campaign. Perks include signed copies of the books, a Gettysburg photoshoot, a stay in the Emig Mansion in York, PA, DVDs of the completed movie and a cameo role in the film.
Content of the film will be family oriented, focusing on telling a good story that has accurate historical references. Language will be “PG13”, there will not be any nudity, and the violence on the battlefields will be suitable for viewing by mixed age groups. This creative effort is ably assisted by Jason Shindledecker and the rest of her team.
Half of the funds earned from the crowdfunding campaign will initially go to a book tour and promotion of the books. Sales from the books, plus the other half of the crowdfund money will go toward costs of making the film. The project is teamed with From the Heart Productions, and are therefore tax deductible.
