SMITHTOWN, NY, UNITED STATES, June 3, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Jude Treder-Wolff, a writer/performer and psychotherapist who hosts the monthly live show (mostly) TRUE THINGS in Port Jefferson, NY is featured on the June 1 episode of Kevin Allison's groundbreaking podcast RISK! telling a radio version of her story "Be Here Now." The episode's theme is "Turning Points" with stories about experiences that change the direction of a person's life. RISK! is a podcast and live show where people tell true stories "they never dared to share." It was named one of New York's top ten podcasts by Time Out NY, listed as one of Buzzfeed's "12 Storytelling Podcasts You Need To Be Listening To' and included in the "best of" for summer listening by the website Mashable. This is Treder-Wolff's second appearance on the podcast. Her first recorded story "Winter Storm" was on the Christmas Day 2013 episode.

(mostly) TRUE THINGS features true stories - with a twist - told live without notes. The next performance is scheduled for Saturday June 20, 2015 at 7 pm, at Performing Arts Studio of New York, 224 E. Main St., Port Jefferson, NY. Tickets are $10, available at the door or online at Brown Paper Tickets. Each show presents four storytellers who share an 8-10 minute story from their own life. Only one of them is telling the unvarnished truth, the other 3 change some details or include carefully-crafted little white lies. None of these changes impact the emotional arc of the story, so this show is an evening of authenticity, heart, and lots of comedy. By the end of the evening, the whole truth comes out, with the help of the audience.

The June 20 performance will have stories by:
Dr. Debbie Zelizer, who has worked in the School of Health, Technology and Management at Stony Brook University since 1989, and began her career working on the AIDS inpatient treatment center at Stonybrook University Hospital providing emotional and psychological support to patients and their families. She also provided extensive training for staff, and is currently chair of the Health Science Dept and Program Director of the Health Science Major.

Dawn Borchers is an MBA in Business Management who currently works as a national sales manager from her home office. She is a Long Island native and mom of 2 kids.

Daniel Treder is a teacher of mathematics and he plays one at Pemberton Township High School in Burlington County, NJ. When he is not teaching, he lies to practice southern style Kung Fu (Hung Gar), and is a busy father of 3 boys.

Martha Kahan is a high school social worker living on the east end of Long Island. She is an avid fan of storytelling shows and podcasts.

Storytelling shows and podcasts are increasingly popular forms of entertainment, partly because of their power to engage emotion and imagintion. “A good story’s a good story from the brain’s perspective, whether it’s audio or video or text. It’s the same kind of activation in the brain,” says Paul Zak, the director of the Center for Neuroeconomics Studies at Claremont Graduate University in the April 2015 Atlantic Monthly article "Why Do Audio Stories Captivate?" Dr. Zak, who studies the ways that watching and listening to stories influence our physiology and behavior, find that stories can have deep emotional impact, enough to change attitudes and shape choices.
