Photographer Emma McIntyre Collaborates on Upcoming Film

Unit stills photographer of the film "Diamond Tongues," Emma McIntyre's extraordinary talent & creative eye keeps her working across multiple platforms.

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, October 17, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A brilliant photographer whose craft extends into various spheres of the industry, Emma McIntyre worked as the unit stills photographer on the upcoming comedy drama film "Diamond Tongues," which wrapped production earlier this year.

"Diamond Tongues" follows lead singer from the hit band July Talk, Leah Fay Goldstein, in the role of Edith, a wannabe actress who’s down on her luck.

Directed by Pavan Moondi and Brian Robertson, the film "Diamond Tongues" had a heavy collaboration from well-known music industry icons like Broken Social Scene singer Brendan Canning who did the score for the film, as well as served as the film’s executive producer, and Goldstein’s co-lead singer in the band July Talk, Peter Dreimanis, who served as the film’s cinematographer and co-producer.

"Emma is the best at quietly blending into the background and beautifully capturing candid moments on-set,” explained "Diamond Tongues" director Pavan Moondi. “We tried to shoot the film with a documentary aesthetic while still focusing on each frame's composition, and Emma's style falls perfectly in line with that - she grabs candid photos that look so good they must be carefully posed-for - but they're not."

McIntyre has worked as a unit stills photographer on several other projects for film and television shows including "Curious and Unusual Deaths," "Inventions That Shook The World," "Rescue Mediums," "Totally Amp’d" and "Million Dollar Critic," as well as the films "Everyday is Like Sunday" and "Don’t You Forget About Me."

McIntyre’s recent shots for the first episode of the show "Million Dollar Critic," which follows restaurant critic Giles Coren as he travels through Toronto calling out some of the city’s best and worst restaurants, can be found on the W Network’s website.
Through her work on the show, McIntyre also got the chance to shoot Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.

In addition to being an incredible unit stills photographer, McIntyre’s body of work as a photographer includes a vast number of subjects and a long list of astonishingly well-known clients. A highly sought after photographer, Emma McIntyre’s clients include fashion brands like Horses Atelier, Hudson’s Bay Company and Knixwear, production companies like New Road Media, Temple Street Productions, Shaftesbury Films, Lamport Sheppard Productions, as well as the Canadian Art Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and many more.

McIntyre’s work as a photographer for music events and live concerts has been used in some of the music industry’s most respected publications including Rolling Stone, Billboard Magazine, and Spin. Over the summer she photographed several bands and musicians at popular music festivals like Osheaga, North by Northeast and TURF Festival.

“Lately I’ve also been shooting a lot of music, live concert photography as well as some backstage portraits. It’s really challenging to work with the changing lighting conditions and in a really limited time (usually the first three songs only.) I’ve loved trying to capture something unique,” said McIntyre. “Being a part of that performing energy is really invigorating.”

McIntyre’s recent photo of Nick Cave from the Osheaga festival appears in the NY Post, the Guardian, ET Canada and the Adelaide Observer, and her photo of Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner appears in Spin online.

McIntyre is also known for her ability to capture the soul of a space with her use of natural lighting and dynamic angles. Not only was Emma McIntyre chosen by coveted jeweler Tiffany & Co. to shoot the interior of their flagship store in Toronto, but she has also been working with Toronto-based interior designer Timothy Johnson for several years. Over the course of their collaboration, McIntyre has compiled a beautiful collection of photos of Johnson’s work which now serve as the photos for the designers extensive website.

“I love his design work and some of his projects have been featured in House and Home, Objekt, and Toronto Homes. I’ve documented all of his projects over several years and love the meditative aspect of just shooting spaces and objects,” explained McIntyre.

Additionally, Emma McIntyre’s photos of neighborhood environments appear in Toronto Life. Her photo of one such Toronto neighborhood, which appeared on the May 2012 cover of Toronto Life Neighbourhoods, was also chosen as the cover of the week by Covers Sell.

Over the years McIntyre has also developed a signature style in the way of still life and food photography, which has made her a go-to hire for magazines life Men’s Fashion, Toronto Life, BizBash and others.

Using natural light, McIntyre has managed to capture an array of dishes that make viewers’ mouths water.

“My biggest consideration is usually colour. I kind of blur my eyes looking at the food trying to read overall tones when trying to figure out what will work best as a backdrop and try different variations, sometimes with really harsh direct sunlight that can be pretty dramatic and other times overcast light that creates a more muted soft look. I've learned to use whatever light and backdrops are available in the restaurants where I'm shooting,” said McIntyre.

Most recently, McIntyre has been collaborating with Men's Fashion magazine to do styled food shoots where she also incorporates a portrait of the chef. Last week she shot chef Rob Gentile and one of his dishes from the restaurant Buca, which will appear in the holiday issue of Men’s Fashion magazine.
