How to Become a Hollywood “Acquisition Specialist”

LOS ANGELES, LA, UNITED STATES, August 26, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- If you hear that there’s a new film out featuring acquisition specialists, you might be expecting to see impeccably clad Wall Street bankers combining three- martini lunches with their profit margins. You’d be wrong. The acquisition specialists in the film Red Acquisition are a team of high-level corporate thieves who, after they steal—we said acquisitions, we didn’t say honest—an unreleased pharmaceutical drug that’s known as Red—suddenly find themselves at the center of a dangerous conspiracy with powerful and lethal international connections.

Okay, now you’re thinking that you have it all figured out. It’s an action thriller. And you’re right, but don’t expect a run-of-the-mill rock ‘em, sock ‘em picture that features more testosterone than talent. Red Acquisition by TLS Film Productions is definitely a thriller, but its mature dramatic theme knows how to give equal time to the action without short-changing the plot. Story and stunts, that’s the philosophy of the TLS Team. So you’re going to see stunts that have viewers leaning forward in breathless suspense to find out what happens next. But in order to make a film that meets their expectations, TLS needs some crowdfunding help. This film is setting its course for moviegoer satisfaction by sharing the billing with Kickstarter for a crowdfunding campaign that has until September 17 to raise $12,000.

TLS Productions is a multi-media start-up that consists of Matthew Zaleski, Michael Kunz and Malachi Pulte bringing their love of movies to the project. The guys got their start in high school back in Ohio and Pennsylvania, where they made movies for fun in their spare time. But as the years went by, the hobby turned into a lifelong passion and now their company is looking to create ambitious films and web content, and have fun while they do it.

Fun might not be a standard ingredient for a business plan, but TLS knows how important it is to bring that personal touch into a successful film. Think of the Indiana Jones movies, and how the action had you gasping, while the characters made you smile. Stunts that challenge expectation are also integral to the film.

In order to integrate that spontaneous element into their drama, TLS Productions is taking their cue from the master of physical comedy, Buster Keaton, with a little Jackie Chan thrown in for good measure. As Malachi explains it, “The vast majority of the script came from ideas we’d been kicking around for a while . . . all of a sudden someone mentioned a scare about corn syrup and we took that idea and ran with it.” But don’t be fooled into thinking that Red Acquisition is just simple fun. The rough-hewn atmosphere of the film takes inspiration from movies like Drive and The Bourne Identity with a relentless marathon to the culmination of the suspense that will exhaust the audience.

With a goal of creating a movie that revels in its low-budget limitations while at the same time transcending them, how does TLS plans to accomplish their aim? Movies aren’t cheap to make; locations, equipment and labor cost money. However, the team has kept a sharp eye on ways to economize financially but not dramatically: they’ve written the script so that the action takes place in locations that are affordable and accessible for a film crew. But the crowdfunding dollars are needed for professional equipment and audio. Although they’ve managed to acquire equipment piecemeal by saving money or doing it themselves, it’s by renting or buying equipment that they’ll be able to ensure that the most costly and time-consuming scenes in the script can be completed.

Many members of the cast and crew have donated their time, but the talent in front of and behind the camera needs to be paid. Crowdfunding donations can compensate these people for their time. The filmmakers are currently deep in the pre-production process with plans to begin the final round of casting before they resume production which can be finalized when the crowdfunding donations are available.
