Oil & Gas UK Begins Search for Outstanding Performers

Oil & Gas UK has begun a search for outstanding performers as the countdown to one of the biggest events in the industry calendar begins.

Nominations for the Oil & Gas UK Awards 2012, sponsored by Shell U.K. Limited, have now officially opened. Although the showpiece event itself isn’t until November, entrants are being sought before the closing date of 10 August.

Each year, Oil & Gas UK invites people and companies across the entire length and breadth of the oil and gas industry to demonstrate they have what it takes to be crowned among the very best.

The awards are given out across five categories. Two of which recognise young professionals and young technicians who are seen as the industry’s future. Another award goes to the experienced mentors who are helping to bring on the young and less experienced.

As well as these awards for individuals, two accolades are given to companies. One is given in recognition of a company’s efforts in developing its staff, while the other rewards business efficiency and sustainability.

Glen Cayley, Vice President – Technical for Shell said: “At Shell, we believe it is important to recognise and reward excellence and the Oil & Gas UK Awards help to showcase the talent that is being developed and nurtured in our industry.

"To receive an Oil & Gas UK Award is a great achievement for any winner – be it a young technician at the start of their career or for a mentor who has spent twenty five years in the industry”.

Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive Malcolm Webb said: "We have opened nominations for this year’s Oil & Gas UK Awards and we are looking for exceptional talent in oil and gas.

"Young people are an absolutely vital part of this industry and there are many talented young people achieving great things. If you’re a top young professional or young technician, we want to hear from you.

"Likewise if you’re an experienced mentor who has put effort into developing others – please think about entering. Mentors pass on their valuable skills and experience to the next generation of talent and it’s important they are given due recognition.

"The company awards give businesses – regardless of their size or specialism – the chance to shine by demonstrating their excellence in people development or efficiency. It’s a real opportunity for talented organisations to take centre stage and showcase their exceptional and innovative practices.

"Above all, it’s the people that make this industry great and the Oil & Gas UK Awards is the definitive event for the entire industry to gather and celebrate its top performers."
