There is no - we already did that and it won't work. They are giving me the freedom and creativity to try it all!”
— Melody Campbell

WOODLAND PARK, CO, UNITED STATES, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Tava House recently partnered with new team member, meet Special Events Director, Melody Campbell. Her professional role with events began in 2013 when she organized more than 200 attendee wellness seminars and classes. Her next endeavor saw her creating elaborate sales dinners for high-net-worth clients for a real estate company. Her most recent positions were with Red Leg Brewing in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the Ute Pass Cultural Center in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Campbell was first attracted to Tava House by the incredible building. “I am so impressed by the design and the thoughtfulness that went into creating the space. I still have an incredible view of Pikes Peak while I work,” said Campbell. “Second, I now get to explore all different types of events and gatherings. Events are my passion. Before, I was mainly assisting others in creating their events but now I get to create events first-hand for my community,” she continued. “And third, is the food. I have already tried some of the tastiest dishes ever put in front of me.”

Anyone who has worked with Campbell knows that she brings a high level of professionalism and organization to everything she does. “I try to think of the customer's needs beforehand and fill those needs before it ever even comes up,” said Campbell.

Her plans to enhance the Tava special events atmosphere include building new and improved wedding and event rental packages and bringing diverse events geared toward all members of our community. “I have ideas on how to bring the nearby restaurants together for a history festival,” she shared. But mostly she plans on listening to the needs of Woodland Park and beyond in order to provide the community hub that everyone will want to visit and enjoy.

Campbell looks forward to growing her event knowledge as a whole. “This is a big step for me and I have not had as much experience with fine dining and Tava already has events booked that I need to pick up on where the previous, extremely talented, event manager left off,” said Campbell. “I also want to create approachable events and classes that allow our neighbors to get fancy and feel confident stepping out of their comfort zone. I also want to stay in touch with my roots so comedy nights, music video bingo, trivia, watch parties, those are all my bread and butter.”

“I feel that where the best opportunity comes in is that Tava House is brand new,” said Campbell. “We can try it all. There is no - we already did that and it won't work. They are giving me the freedom and creativity to try it all!”

When she’s not planning events, you can find Campbell relaxing in a body of water somewhere in the Pikes Peak Region, playing soccer in the beautiful outdoors or hanging out with her husband, daughter and dog at home.

The program, titled “9/11 Memorium: STARRS (Video Version),” features Ferguson in a discussion with Scott, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, about Scott’s experience and perspective as a counterterrorism expert and the lessons America should remember from the attacks 25 years later.

“It was truly an honor to be invited by Dr. Ferguson to participate in this important documentary and to share my perspective on a day that forever changed our nation,” Scott said. “For those of us who served during that period and worked in the national security arena, 9/11 was much more than a historic event. Its consequences shaped our military, our national security priorities and an entire generation of Americans. Twenty-five years later, it remains vitally important that we remember what happened, honor those we lost and continue to learn from it.”

During the program, Ferguson and Scott discuss Scott’s role and experience as a counterterrorism expert and explore the enduring legacy of 9/11, including its impact on the military, national security and the nation.

The discussion comes as the United States marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, when nearly 3,000 people were killed in terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Virginia and aboard United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Scott said the anniversary also underscores the importance of ensuring younger generations understand the attacks' significance and the response that followed.

“An entire generation has now grown up without a personal memory of Sept. 11,” Scott said. “Those of us who experienced that period have a responsibility to tell the story, preserve its lessons and remember the courage, sacrifice and unity Americans demonstrated in its aftermath.”

Scott served more than three decades in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1973. His military career included extensive experience in national security, strategy, policy and counterterrorism. He retired at the rank of colonel.

Today, Scott leads STARRS, a Colorado Springs-based nonprofit organization dedicated to educating Americans about issues affecting the U.S. armed forces and advocating for a military focused on readiness, merit, unit cohesion and its constitutional mission.

The Mountain West Country Music Association announced five nominees for the honor: Copper River Family Entertainment & Events, Tom Davis Saloon, Phil Long Music Hall, Shifterz Bar & Grill and America’s Mountain Festival / Tava House.
The nomination recognizes venues and organizations that provide artists with places to perform and create memorable experiences where fans can come together in support of live country music.

“We are incredibly proud to see America’s Mountain Festival and Tava House recognized alongside some outstanding venues that are doing so much for live music in our region,” said Derek Waggoner, founder of America’s Mountain Festival and Tava House investor. “From the beginning, our goal has been to create experiences that bring people together. This nomination belongs to the artists, volunteers, sponsors, community partners and fans who have believed in what we are building here in Woodland Park.”

America’s Mountain Festival has quickly become a signature music and community event in Woodland Park, bringing nationally recognized and emerging country artists to the Pikes Peak region while maintaining a strong emphasis on community, family and support for military members and veterans.

The 2026 festival featured headliner Aaron Watson along with Jenna Paulette, Walker Montgomery, Tyce Delk, the Matt Skinner Band and Kenya Reese. The festival was held at Woodland Station in downtown Woodland Park.
For festival organizers, the Venue of the Year nomination represents an important milestone as planning moves forward for America’s Mountain Festival 2027.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects what we have worked so hard to create — a festival that is about much more than a stage and a lineup,” said Heather Burrows AMF Operations Director, America’s Mountain Festival. “It is about creating a place where artists feel welcomed, fans feel connected and our entire community can share an unforgettable experience. We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported America’s Mountain Festival and helped make this nomination possible.”

Tava House has also expanded its role as a gathering place for music, entertainment and special events in Woodland Park. Its River Room, Taproom, patio and other spaces provide opportunities for performances and community programming throughout the year.

The winner of the Venue of the Year Award will be announced Nov. 7 during the 2026 Mountain West Country Music Awards at The Antlers in Colorado Springs.

The awards evening is the culminating event of the Mountain West Country Fest and will include a cocktail hour, a three-course plated dinner, an awards ceremony, performances, and live music.

“We appreciate everyone who supported the festival, attended, volunteered, sponsored, performed or simply helped spread the word,” Waggoner said. “This recognition is something our entire community can be proud of.”

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. — Perini & Associates has donated to FaithfulHearts Equine Learning Center, supporting the nonprofit organization's efforts to provide equine-assisted services for veterans, children, individuals with disabilities, first responders and families throughout the Pikes Peak region.

The contribution reflects the Woodland Park-based firm's ongoing commitment to supporting organizations that strengthen local communities and improve quality of life for those facing physical, emotional and developmental challenges.

The donation was presented during a recent visit to the center, where Perini & Associates President and CEO Michael Perini met with Executive Director Stephanie Smith and learned more about FaithfulHearts' programs and impact.

FaithfulHearts Equine Learning Center is a PATH International-certified nonprofit that provides equine-assisted services designed to promote confidence, emotional well-being, communication skills and personal growth. Through its programs, the organization serves veterans, children, individuals with disabilities, first responders and families while also offering leadership development opportunities, educational programs and volunteer experiences.

"As a retired United States Air Force officer, supporting veterans has always been important to me," Perini said. "When I learned more about the work FaithfulHearts is doing, I immediately saw the difference they are making in people's lives. Their programs help individuals build confidence, find hope and develop skills that positively impact them long after they leave the arena."

Representatives from Rifle 2 Reins accepted a $10,500 donation generated through a portion of ticket sales from the second annual America's Mountain Festival. The Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District (NETCO), a recipient of festival proceeds in 2025, also received an increased donation of $3,000 this year in recognition of its continued service to the community.

The donations reflect the festival's commitment to supporting organizations that strengthen the region and serve its residents. Since its inception, America's Mountain Festival has contributed $16,500 to local nonprofit organizations through proceeds generated by festival ticket sales, reinforcing its commitment to giving back to the community it serves.

The ceremony also honored three major festival sponsors—Park State Bank & Trust, Charis Bible College, and Teller WiFi—with commemorative guitars personally autographed by this year's performing artists, including headliner Aaron Watson, Jenna Paulette, Walker Montgomery, Tyce Delk, Matt Skinner Band, and America’s Mountain Festival Songwriters' Competition winner Kenya Reese.

The morning event included coffee and donuts and brought together festival organizers, sponsors, nonprofit leaders, volunteers, and community partners to celebrate the success of the festival and the partnerships that made it possible.

"From the very beginning, America's Mountain Festival was envisioned as more than a concert," said Derek Waggoner, founder of America's Mountain Festival. "Our goal has always been to create an event that brings people together, showcases our community, supports local businesses, and gives back to organizations that make a difference every day. Today's presentations are a reminder that when a community comes together, everyone benefits."

Waggoner added, "The support we received from our sponsors, volunteers, performers, vendors, and thousands of attendees made this year's festival possible. These guitars symbolize our appreciation, but the real success is what we accomplished together for Woodland Park and the surrounding region."

Festival Director Heather Burrows said the second annual festival exceeded expectations in several key areas.

"We're extremely proud of what was accomplished in only our second year," Burrows said. "We experienced increased attendance, stronger ticket sales, more vendors, expanded community participation, and overwhelmingly positive feedback from guests. Those results demonstrate that America's Mountain Festival is becoming one of Colorado's premier summer events while remaining true to its hometown roots."

Makayla Richardson, representing Park State Bank & Trust, said the recognition was especially meaningful because of the bank's deep ties to the community. “We are truly honored to accept this recognition and proud to support America’s Mountain Festival. At PSB&T, we believe events like this are the heart of our community — bringing families together, forging lasting connections, and breathing life into our downtown. We are deeply grateful for the chance to invest in experiences that strengthen the places we call home and enrich the lives of the people we serve.”

Organizers continue to review attendance data, economic impact, and marketing analytics as part of a comprehensive post-event assessment. Early indicators show significant growth in visitor engagement, social media reach, regional participation, attendance, ticket sales, sponsorships, and vendor participation compared with the inaugural festival.

Planning is already underway for the 2027 America's Mountain Festival, with organizers committed to building on this year's momentum while continuing the festival's mission of celebrating mountain heritage, supporting local nonprofits, and creating an unforgettable experience for residents and visitors alike.
Michael Perini

Connor, a graduate of The Citadel, became the first living Citadel graduate to be inducted into the South Carolina Military Veterans Hall of Fame, a distinction that reflects decades of service to the military, veterans, and the citizens of South Carolina.

A retired Army Infantry Colonel, attorney, community leader, and veterans advocate, Connor has dedicated much of his life to advancing the interests of those who have served in uniform. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors for STARRS, where he contributes his experience and leadership to the organization's mission of promoting military readiness, meritocracy, and the preservation of military excellence.

“This recognition is richly deserved,” said Dr. Ron Scott, President and CEO of STARRS. “Bill Connor has spent a lifetime serving something larger than himself. Whether in uniform, in public service, or through his work supporting veterans and military families, he has consistently demonstrated the character, courage, and commitment that define our nation's finest leaders. STARRS is honored to have Bill as a member of our Board of Advisors and congratulates him on this remarkable achievement.”

The South Carolina Military Veterans Hall of Fame recognizes military veterans who have continued to distinguish themselves through extraordinary service and leadership after their military careers, making lasting contributions to their communities, state, and nation.

Connor said the recognition belongs not only to him but also to the many servicemembers, veterans, and mentors who shaped his journey.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to be inducted into the South Carolina Military Veterans Hall of Fame,” Connor said. “This recognition reflects the sacrifices and service of countless men and women with whom I have had the privilege to serve. I accept this honor on behalf of my fellow veterans, my family, and the mentors who inspired me throughout my life.”

Connor added that his years of military service and advocacy reinforced the importance of preserving the values that have long defined the U.S. armed forces.

“Service does not end when you remove the uniform,” he said. “Our obligation to support our nation, our communities, and the next generation of military leaders continues throughout our lives. I remain committed to that mission and grateful for the opportunities I have been given to serve.”

STARRS leaders noted that Connor's induction reflects the caliber of leadership represented throughout the organization's advisory board and membership.

“Bill's life is a powerful example of servant leadership,” Scott said. “His integrity, patriotism, and dedication to military service continue to inspire all of us working to ensure America's armed forces remain focused on readiness, excellence, and mission accomplishment.”

Adding to this year's excitement, the City of Woodland Park has officially proclaimed July 11, 2026, as Western Wear Day, encouraging residents, businesses and visitors to celebrate the community's rich western heritage by wearing western attire throughout the day.

Now in its second year, the festival has experienced remarkable growth, attracting a record number of sponsors (See the list at https://americasmountainfestival.com/sponsors-26) and the largest number of vendors in the festival's history. Organizers say the expanded support reflects growing enthusiasm from businesses and the community for what is quickly becoming one of the Pikes Peak region's signature summer events.

"This festival was created to celebrate everything that makes Woodland Park and the Pikes Peak region special," said Derek Waggoner, Founder of America's Mountain Festival and CEO of Tava Investor Group. "From nationally recognized entertainment to local businesses, families, military appreciation, and western heritage, America's Mountain Festival is becoming something our entire community can be proud of. The support we've received from sponsors, volunteers and vendors has exceeded our expectations."

OUTSTANDING ENTERTAINMENT LINEUP

Opening the festival is Kenya Reese, winner of the 2026 America's Mountain Festival Songwriters Competition. Her victory earned her the opportunity to perform alongside nationally recognized artists, showcasing the festival's commitment to supporting emerging musical talent.

Colorado favorite Matt Skinner Band delivers the high-energy country and southern rock sound that has made them one of Colorado's most popular live acts and a perennial crowd favorite.

TikTok sensation Tyce Delk brings his rapidly growing fan base and authentic western sound to the festival. Known for heartfelt songwriting and traditional country influences, Delk has quickly become one of the region's most talked-about emerging performers.

Joining him is Jenna Paulette, whose music celebrates the authentic ranching lifestyle and modern western culture. Her traditional country sound and storytelling have earned national recognition as one of country music's fastest-rising female artists.

Walker Montgomery, son of John Michael Montgomery and nephew of Eddie Montgomery, continues one of country music's legendary family traditions while establishing his own career with contemporary country hits and energetic live performances.

Headlining the festival is Aaron Watson, one of independent country music's greatest success stories. Watson has built a loyal national following with multiple Billboard No. 1 albums and hit songs including Outta Style and That Look. His high-energy performances and authentic Texas country sound have made him one of today's most respected independent artists.

SOMETHING FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY
New this year, the festival's vendor marketplace will be open to the public, allowing everyone to browse dozens of businesses, artists, and exhibitors without entering the concert venue.

Families will also enjoy a new AMF Frontier Fun Zone. Sponsored by Merit Academy and the Merit Rodeo Team, kids of all ages can join in on the fun. “We'll have bounce houses, yard games and maybe even a surprise or two (still working on some details),” Burrows said.

Festival attendees can also enjoy a wide variety of food trucks, merchandise vendors, community organizations, military displays, and interactive exhibits throughout the day.

Serving as Masters of Ceremonies will be the popular hosts of the "Teller Time" Podcast, Thom Seehafer and Charlie Chambers, whose humor, local knowledge and engaging personalities have made them favorites throughout Teller County.

"This festival has grown because it belongs to the community," said Michael Perini, PR and Marketing Director for America's Mountain Festival. "Every sponsor, volunteer, vendor, performer and attendee plays a role in creating an experience that showcases Woodland Park at its very best. We want families to spend the day together, enjoy incredible music, discover local businesses, and celebrate everything that makes our community unique."

The festival also continues its commitment to giving back to the community. Partial proceeds will benefit Rifles 2 Reins, a Colorado nonprofit that helps veterans and first responders heal through horsemanship, mentorship, and equine-assisted programs.

Partial proceeds will also support the Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District, helping provide critical emergency services, firefighter training, equipment, and public safety resources that protect residents and visitors throughout the Woodland Park region.

Festival organizers encourage everyone to participate in the City's newly proclaimed Western Wear Day by wearing boots, hats, jeans and western attire throughout Woodland Park on July 11.
Ron Scott, USAF, President and CEO of STARRS.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, UNITED STATES, June 28, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Stand Together Against Racism and Radicalism in the Services (STARRS) is inviting military members, veterans, families and the public to attend the Colorado Springs screening of the new documentary, Duty to Disobey, on Tuesday, June 30, followed by a live question-and-answer panel featuring STARRS leaders and representatives.

The documentary examines the impact of the Department of Defense's COVID-19 vaccine mandate on U.S. servicemembers and explores the legal, medical and personal consequences experienced by thousands of military personnel.

The Colorado Springs showing begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at AMC Chapel Hills 13, 1710 Briargate Blvd.

The invited public must buy their tickets online at https://dutytodisobeyfilm.com prior to the event. The public cannot buy tickets via AMC, nor can the D2D film hosts accept cash.

Immediately following the film, attendees are invited to remain for a special STARRS panel discussion and audience Q&A. Panelists will discuss the mission of STARRS, the organization's recent advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and at the Pentagon, and their perspectives on the documentary. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with STARRS leadership.

"Colorado Springs is home to one of the nation's largest military communities, making this an especially important opportunity for veterans, active-duty personnel and citizens to learn more about this significant chapter in our military's recent history," said retired Col. Ron Scott, USAF, President and CEO of STARRS.

Pam Long, host of the Colorado Springs screening, said the discussion following the documentary will provide attendees with a unique opportunity to engage directly with STARRS leadership. Long is director of the Children's Health Defense Military Chapter. She is a graduate of USMA at West Point and is an Army Veteran of the Medical Service Corps. She served as a medical intelligence officer for NATO Stabilization Forces.

"The documentary tells an important story, but the conversation doesn't end when the credits roll," Long said. "The panel will give attendees the opportunity to hear directly from STARRS leaders about their mission, our advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C., and our response to the issues presented in the film. We encourage everyone to stay afterward for what promises to be a thoughtful and informative discussion."

Earlier this month, members of STARRS and the MacArthur Society attended a congressional screening of Duty to Disobey in Washington, D.C., hosted by U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson. The screening included STARRS Chairman of the Board Maj. Gen. Bentley Rayburn, USAF (Ret.); Vice Chairman Brig. Gen. Mick Zais, USA (Ret.); and Executive Vice President and General Counsel Mike Rose, JD/MBA, a retired South Carolina state senator and Air Force veteran.

Rose described the documentary as an educational resource for the public.

"This film is very educational, especially for those largely uninformed, describing the history of the anthrax and COVID vaccines, the nature of the illegalities pertaining to them, the harms caused to service members by them, and remedies, sought and given," Rose said.
Tickets are selling quickly for screenings across the country. Organizers encourage attendees to purchase tickets in advance and remain after the film for the live discussion.

Colorado Springs Screening and Q&A
It will provide protection for docks and vessels, improve usability and set the stage for a world-class marina.”
— Dan Allen, Marina Director for North Shore Marina

PUEBLO WEST, CO, UNITED STATES, May 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The O’Neil Group today announced the finalization of the breakwater design for North Shore Marina at Pueblo Reservoir—a critical milestone that launches Phase One of the new marina build.

“The breakwater design is foundational to everything that follows,” said Dan Allen, Marina Director for North Shore Marina on behalf of the O’Neil Group. “It will provide essential protection for docks and vessels, improve usability during variable lake conditions, and set the stage for a world-class marina that serves boaters, anglers, and families for decades to come.”

Allen emphasized that this first phase is both a technical and strategic priority for the entire redevelopment effort. “The O’Neil Group (DBA North Shore Marina) has been diligently working with Colorado Parks and Wildlife as well as the Bureau of Reclamation on finalizing the plans of the new North Shore Marina wave breaks.” he said.

“This is where the vision becomes reality,” Allen added. “The breakwater system is designed to enhance safety, extend the usability of the marina in changing conditions, and ensure long-term durability. Again, it’s a critical step forward for our boating community and everyone who enjoys Pueblo Reservoir.”

“Both the northern and eastern wave breaks are scheduled to be installed in early June. During the installation of the new wave breaks, we are working to minimize any inconveniences to our boaters and other patrons of the park,” he said. “We will share more definitive dates as June draws closer and construction schedules firm up.”

“Further, we submitted our plans for the new docks and marina store to the Bureau of Reclamation a few months ago,” Allen said. “They are in the process of reviewing those plans. We still look to be on track to begin the first phase of docks construction this year, after the boating season ends.”

Today’s announcement builds on the secured 20-year contract extension between the O’Neil Group and Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), strengthening a strong and ongoing partnership focused on stewardship, recreation, and long-term investment in Colorado’s natural resources.

“The partnership with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the local Pueblo Reservoir team remains incredibly strong,” Allen said. “Their collaboration, expertise, and shared vision have been instrumental in reaching this milestone. Together, we are committed to building a marina that reflects the needs of today’s users while protecting the environment for future generations.”

The North Shore Marina has long served as a hub for outdoor recreation, connecting residents and visitors with Colorado’s natural beauty. The extended contract with CPW allows the O’Neil Group to move forward with a comprehensive redevelopment plan that will transform the marina experience.
The North Shore Marina offers a wide range of services and amenities, including long- and short-term slip rentals, a marina store, seasonal restaurant, restrooms, boat rentals, and family-friendly recreation opportunities.

The O’Neil Group also expressed appreciation for its loyal slip renters. “We want to thank the slip renters who have stayed with us and trust in our long-term goal of building a new modern marina,” Allen said.

The one-day music festival will feature nationally recognized country and Red Dirt performers, food vendors, family-friendly activities, merchandise, and community experiences designed to celebrate music, culture, and the mountain lifestyle of the Pikes Peak region.

“Elia Locardi, CEO & Co-founder of Radiant Imaging Labs, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to creativity, connection, and authentic experiences.”

“America’s Mountain Festival embodies this spirit perfectly. It’s about music, place, community, and those shared, genuine experiences that really stick with you,” said Elia Locardi, CEO & Co-founder, Radiant Imaging Labs. “Becoming the Title Sponsor felt like a natural fit because these are the values I care deeply about: creativity, human connection, and celebrating moments that matter.”

Radiant Imaging Labs plans to showcase its Radiant Concert Camera technology during the festival, highlighting imaging tools designed to help concertgoers capture live-music experiences while preserving authenticity and privacy.

Locardi said the company’s mission extends beyond devices and software.

“I’ve always believed our real purpose is to help people see, preserve, and share life more beautifully and truthfully,” said Locardi. “Supporting AMF lets us stand at the crossroads of technology and genuine human experience, which is exactly where I feel Radiant does its best work.”

Festival organizers said the sponsorship represents a significant step forward for the growing event, which launched in 2025 and continues to expand its regional and national visibility.

“Having Radiant Imaging Labs join America’s Mountain Festival as our Title Sponsor is a tremendous statement about where this event is headed,” said Derek Waggoner, founder of America’s Mountain Festival and CEO of the Tava Investor Group. “Radiant represents innovation, creativity, and authenticity — values that align perfectly with our vision for the festival. We are proud to partner with a globally recognized technology company that understands the importance of community, live music, and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests here in Woodland Park.”

The festival’s location in Woodland Park and its backdrop of Pikes Peak were also key factors in the partnership.

“What really stands out about America’s Mountain Festival is its character,” said Locardi. “It’s not trying to be generic or overproduced — it owns its sense of place, identity, and real connection to the audience.”

Locardi added that the company sees live entertainment, storytelling, and technology as increasingly interconnected. Florian Schuster, a prominent figure in the European photo industry and managing director of Imaging Media House Germany, is a co-founder of Radiant Imaging Labs alongside Elia Locardi and Rich Harrington. https://community.radiantimaginglabs.com/members/12157870

“Live entertainment creates emotion, storytelling gives that emotion meaning, and technology gives us the power to preserve and share it,” he said. “At Radiant, I believe technology should serve storytelling, never overshadow it.”

America’s Mountain Festival will feature performances by Aaron Watson, Walker Montgomery, Jenna Paulette, Tyce Delk, Matt Skinner Band and Kenya Reese (2026 Songwriters Competition winner)

Held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the competition featured 10 songwriters performing original material before a live audience and a panel of judges that included Ben Garcia, Dillon Hoock, and Laura Buckallew. Contestants included Sandy Wells, Jessa Book, Susan Hollis, Abbigail Nadine & jEsTeR, Lynette Wolfe, Meghan Clarisse Cave, Dennis Anderson, Dalton Lafever, Kenya Reese, and Jason Wulf.

The event was presented as part of the lead-up to the second annual America’s Mountain Festival, scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, in Woodland Park. Audience members packed the River Room, creating an intimate and enthusiastic atmosphere that highlighted the region’s growing live music culture.

Competition winner Kenya Reese earned strong praise from both the judges and audience for a performance that blended heartfelt storytelling with emotional honesty. Her songwriting reflected themes of life experiences, reflection, resilience, and finding meaning through music — the kind of performance that quietly captures a room and stays with listeners long after the final note. “Reese’s authentic style and connection with the audience helped secure her selection as the winner of the 2026 America’s Mountain Festival Songwriters Competition,” said one of the judges.

Reese said she was overwhelmed and grateful following the announcement of her win.

“I am feeling so excited and overwhelmed,” Reese said. “I’m so honored that I get this opportunity to play at America’s Mountain Festival. I was motivated honestly because my parents and brother were here supporting me, and I knew I had my grandpa, who I played that song for, watching down from heaven — and my mentor Keith Ferguson watching down from heaven too.”

As part of her recognition, competition winner Kenya Reese will perform a special 30-minute acoustic set during America’s Mountain Festival.

“This competition represents exactly what America’s Mountain Festival is all about — authentic music, storytelling, and community,” said Derek Waggoner, founder of America’s Mountain Festival. “To see the River Room filled with people supporting original artists in Woodland Park shows that this community values live music and wants to be part of something special that continues to grow each year.”

Heather Burrows, America’s Mountain Festival operations director and songwriter competition organizer, said the event exceeded expectations both in participation and audience support.

“The level of talent on stage was incredible, but what stood out just as much was the support in the room,” Burrows said. “Family members, friends, visitors, and local residents all came together to encourage these artists and celebrate songwriting in a truly welcoming environment. That’s what makes this event meaningful.”

The competition also provided an opportunity for emerging and established songwriters to perform before a live audience while building momentum toward the summer festival.

Contestants and judges were also recognized with commemorative America’s Mountain Festival challenge coins, continuing a tradition rooted in honoring participation, creativity, and excellence.

Burrows also thanked the Tava House team for helping make the evening a success during what was the venue’s largest event to date.

“From the front of house team greeting guests to the back of house staff working tirelessly throughout the evening, the service was outstanding,” Burrows said. “We truly appreciate every member of the Tava House team who helped create such a memorable experience for our guests — and yes, many people agreed the bread pudding may very well be the best in the region.”

America’s Mountain Festival returns July 11, 2026, and will feature Aaron Watson, Walker Montgomery, Jenna Paulette, Tyce Delk, and the Matt Skinner Band, along with vendors, food trucks, family-friendly activities, and additional entertainment at the base of Pikes Peak.
As a combat-tested veteran and former elected official, West walks the talk.”
— Dr. Ron Scott, President and CEO of STARRS

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, UNITED STATES, April 22, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Stand Together Against Racism and Radicalism in the Services (STARRS) proudly announces that Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Allen B. West—a decorated combat veteran, former U.S. Army battalion commander, and former member of the United States Congress—has joined its Board of Advisors.

West brings decades of military leadership, public service, and constitutional advocacy to the organization at a time when STARRS continues its mission to promote a merit-based, mission-focused United States Armed Forces.

A Call to Serve

When asked what motivated him to join STARRS at this point in his career, West pointed to both personal respect for its leadership and alignment with its mission.

“Being asked by MG(R) Joe Arbuckle, a man I highly respect, along with Medal of Honor recipient MAJ(R) Drew Dix, the only response is ‘Airborne, Sir!’” said West. “I have long been aware of the work of STARRS, and it is vital in ensuring we restore, have, and maintain a merit-based U.S. Armed Forces. I am also guided by my father’s words: ‘Find out what the standard is and exceed it.’ He served in a segregated Army, and I will not allow a return to cultural separatism in our military.”

A Defense of Military Integrity

Drawing on his experience in combat and in Congress, West emphasized the importance of STARRS’ mission in today’s environment.
“The ideology of cultural Marxism has no place in our armed services,” West said. “It is imperative that I leverage my experience as a combat veteran, retired Army officer, and former Member of Congress to speak clearly and forcefully in defense of our military. Generations of my family have served in combat, and I remain committed to the oath I took to support and defend the Constitution—an oath that has no statute of limitations.”

A Message to Veterans and Supporters

West also issued a call to action for fellow veterans and supporters across the nation. “To my fellow veterans who still believe in the oath we took, it is time to raise our voices,” he said. “I hope to be deployed by STARRS on this ideological battlefield to stand against agendas that undermine the strength, unity, and mission of our military. Our warriors are victors—and we must ensure that legacy endures.”

Leadership Perspective

STARRS leadership welcomed West’s addition, noting his proven leadership, clarity of conviction, and lifelong commitment to service.
“Lt. Col. West is a role model not only for the men and women who wear the uniform of our armed forces but for all Americans who love their country. He is quick to credit his mother and father for teaching him the principles and values of the American Creed, said Dr. Ron Scott, President and CEO of STARRS.

“Americans, young and old, are hungry to better understand what it means to be an American. As a combat-tested veteran and former elected official, West walks the talk as an important spokesman for our Nation,” Scott said.

This new event series called The Wedding Gathering is offering couples a refreshing alternative to traditional bridal shows across Colorado. Set against the massive, breathtaking backdrop of Pikes Peak, Tava House is the perfect example of how refined elegance and natural mountain beauty can live in total harmony.

Instead of crowded convention centers and high-pressure sales environments, The Wedding Gathering invites engaged couples to experience wedding venues the way their wedding day might actually feel — relaxed, welcoming, and inspiring.

Hosted directly at wedding venues across the state, each Gathering allows couples to walk the property, explore ceremony and reception spaces, and connect with a small, curated group of trusted local vendors.

Guests are free to arrive anytime during the event window, enjoy light bites and drinks, ask questions, and imagine how their celebration might unfold in the space. “The idea came from seeing how overwhelming traditional wedding showcases can feel,” said Cody Kilgore, co-founder of The Wedding Gathering and owner of Blackcap Photography in Woodland Park. “We wanted to create something more relaxed — an environment where couples could actually experience the venue and meet vendors casually.”

“Forget the stress of "planning" for a few hours. Instead, come walk through the light-filled spaces of Tava House, stand on the deck to take in the mountain air, and meet a hand-picked group of vendors who believe your wedding day should feel as unique as this view,” said Kilgore.

Each event features a small group of local wedding professionals including photographers, planners, florists, and other vendors who specialize in helping couples create meaningful celebrations.

Events are free to attend with RSVP, making them an accessible way for couples to gather ideas and begin building their vendor team. “Our goal is simple,” said Kilgore. “We want make the process of choosing their venue and vendors easier for couples.”

Please RSVP to ensure the gathering remains intimate and relaxed for everyone. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-wedding-gathering-woodland-park-tava-house-tickets-1980753412778
