Gazprom Neft becomes the first company in Russia to report changes in the company’s hydrocarbon reserves digitally
Gazprom Neft, together with the Russian Federal Geological Fund (Rosgeolfond, a state budgetary institution), has tested the first ever digital scheme for submitting state statistical reports on changes in hydrocarbon reserves to the State Register of Mineral Reserves, with a digital form being successfully used by Gazprom Neft’s largest subsidiary, Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz with assistance from specialists from the company’s Science and Technology Centre. This format is expected to be made available to other Russian oil and gas companies from 2020. A report of this kind would typically run to 5,000 A4 pages in hard copy.
All oil and gas companies in Russia are required to submit reports to the appropriate agencies, every year, using the Federal Service for State Statistics’ Form No.
«Gazprom Neft is the flagship in the Russian oil and gas industry’s digital transformation. Digital tools are crucial to us in optimising all of the company’s business processes. The size and scale of our business, and the standard of technological tooling at our assets, means we can, already, utilise new reporting strategies which will, shortly, become standard throughout the entire industry».
Alexei Vashkevich Head of Technological Development Directorate, Gazprom Neft
Preparing hard-copy reports can be a complex process for companies with multiple licenses and deposits in various regions. Gazpromneft-Noyarbskneftegaz, for example, had to compile reports on 42 licenses, involving approximately 1,500 accountable items, for its 2018 reports to the Rosgeolfond and similar agencies in the Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs.
The Rosgeolfond and Gazprom Neft, supported by the company’s Science and Technology Centre, established a working group on the digital transformation and storage of geological and geophysical data sources in 2019. The outcome of this work was a more efficient means of compiling and subsequently storing geological information, thanks to which Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz was able to submit its report, in the required form, electronically, using an electronic signature, with the Rosgeolfond facilitating the acceptance, processing and inclusion of this data in the State Reserves Register. The experience gained through this will now make it possible to optimise the process of submitting and processing reporting forms electronically, allowing this to now be disseminated across all subsoil users in the Russian Federation.
«The Rosgeolfond Federal State Budgetary Institution is currently focussed on digitising the management of the State Subsoil Fund. One of the main tasks here currently concerns moving over to the full digital processing (including the collection, consolidation, storage, and provision) of geological information. This is particularly important in the light of the Federal State Information System’s launch of its ‘Integrated Geological Information Database’). The results of our engagement with Gazprom Neft show that we are moving in the right direction».
Dmitry Arakcheev Head of the Russian Federal Geological Fund (Rosgeolfond)
