Angola attends 44th Assembly of SADC Parliamentary Forum
The entourage is comprised by MPs Josefina Pitra Diakité, Luísa Damião, Ruth Mendes and Maria do Carmo do Nascimento, Adalberto da Costa Júnior, Pedro Agostinho de Néri and senior officials of the Angolan parliament.
The assembly will take place as from November 26 to December 10, 2018 in Maputo, Mozambique.
Meetings of several subcommittees prepare the plenary session to culminate in the election of the speaker and vice-speaker of the FP-SADC, for the biennium 2018-2020.
The Angolan Parliament speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, is currently the speaker of the forum. He recently said in Luanda that the transformation of this platform into a regional parliament could speed up the integration of Southern Africa region.
The transformation process will be reviewed in January 2019 during the SADC Council of Ministers meeting.
SADC Parliamentary Forum was created in 1997 as an autonomous SADC institution, which has over 300 million inhabitants and is made up of 14 parliaments of the region.
It also created at the 17th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community held in Blantyre, Malawi.
