BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, USA, February 2, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- You wouldn’t think your state and local tax attorney was also writing science-fiction and fantasy novels, but then Roxanne Bland has always defied expectations. It must be why her stories are filled with the unexpected. When she unlocks her imagination, Roxanne creates fantastical worlds that grab the reader’s attention from her book’s very first lines. — Roxanne Bland
“I’ve been drawn to science fiction and fantasy ever since I was a child,” says Roxanne. “I love disappearing into other worlds for hours on end, whether they’re my own or someone else’s.”
Roxanne is the author of two acclaimed self-published fantasy novels, The Underground and The Moreva of Astoreth. Roxanne’s world-building creates an immersive reading experience.
“I would rather be in a world of my own making with dragons and elves than deal with the everyday banalities of everyday life,” says Roxanne. “I’d rather do something more creative. Even when my attention should be elsewhere, something fantastic will make its way through the din.”
A voracious reader, Roxanne grew up in Washington DC, where she discovered strange and wonderful new worlds through her local public library and book stores. These life experiences convinced her that reality is highly overrated.
“The type of person who wants to sit and read and write science fiction is a different type of person. I’ve always felt different. That’s why I retreated into books. It was my escape from loneliness and being different,” recalls Roxanne. “One day I needed something to read, so I started writing to pass the time.”
When Roxanne was 10, she won a city-wide contest for a science fiction story she had written. Eventually, Roxanne developed a distinct writing voice of her own.
“I’ve always been a storyteller. I’ll see something or hear something or even experience something tactile and it sends my imagination into hyperdrive. I’m writing for the sheer joy of writing. I enjoy the entire process, even when I’m stuck. Sometimes I get so frustrated I want to throw the computer out the window, but it’s never not fun.”
Roxanne likes to meld science fiction, fantasy, horror, romance, erotica into her stories. Roxanne describes writing science fiction and fantasy as the perfect form of expression for her. Each book she writes is a cathartic experience.
The Moreva of Astoreth is about a bigoted priestess who falls for a man of the race she despises and through him learns a dark secret about her God that could tear her world apart. The Underground follows a werewolf caught in a bitter love triangle between a mage and a vampire who falls for an amnesiac space alien who may or may not be a serial killer. Both novels are allegorical in their depictions of oppression and bigotry.
“I write for the sheer joy of writing. I love to write. I don’t care what I write. I just love to write. I love creating these worlds. I love interacting with these worlds. But the real joy is finding just the right word.”
