Charity Event Raises Thousands for ACC School Improvement Projects
Hotel La Rosa hosts fundraiser to benefit poverty-stricken schools in Costa Rica
LA GARITA, ALAJUELA, COSTA RICA, July 30, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- On June 21st, airport Hotel La Rosa de America1 in La Garita hosted a benefit luncheon to raise funds for school supplies and to help repair and upgrade some of the most under-served, poorly-maintained schools in Costa Rica. Conditions at some schools have become so precarious that they are on the verge of being dangerous to attend.Tickets to the event were sold to Canadian Expats and local Ticos and all proceeds from the sales were donated to the fundraiser. Numerous raffles, local business donations, and donated items from members of the Canadian Club of Costa Rica helped boost additional sales at the event, all of which added significantly to the final fundraising tally.
Canadian Ambassador Madame Wendy Drukier was present to offer her support to the cause. In a welcome speech, Ambassador Drukier thanked the board members of the ACC for their tireless efforts on behalf of Costa Rica’s most underserved children.
Hotel La Rosa3 owner Robert Hick said, "With the prolonged education strike and governmental funding problems, we felt compelled to offer a little light into the most beleaguered sector of Costa Rican social and educational responsibility." Asked how he became involved with ACC (The Asociacion Caritativa Canadiense), Hick explained, "Oh, this was a natural fit for us. We were looking for an organization that had been proven to give real help. And we’re Canadians. We’ve been able to help with earlier donation efforts through the ACC, but this event is the largest so far."
During the event, Hotel La Rosa offered free hearty lunches to all, and guests were invited and encouraged to enjoy the hotel grounds and pool. The staff mingled with the visitors, local and foreign.
Hick believes the entire event has been a positive learning experience for the Costa Rican hotel staff and Expats. "Our staff regaled everyone with their naturally-friendly Costa Rican welcoming ways even as they learned about and recognized the value that many foreigners offer to Costa Rican families and businesses."
Because the response to the event was robust and raised thousands of dollars for ACC school improvement projects across the country, Hotel La Rosa plans to repeat the event annually as long as the response remains strong and sufficient value is returned to schools and the children they serve.
