Demand Forces Extension to Deadline for UK Offshore Safety Awards
Step Change in Safety and Oil & Gas UK have decided to extend the deadline for all potential entrants to the UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards to 5pm on Friday 17 February, after a number of companies asked for extra time to submit their nominations.
This year’s awards ceremony, principally sponsored by Maersk Oil, will be held on 18 April at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and will see Unite the Union’s John Taylor give the keynote speech and present the winners with their awards.
A new prize category has also been added to the agenda for 2012 – the Ideas in Safety Prize. An individual or team will pick up a cheque on the day for £5,000 for coming up with an original idea to improve safety in the workplace, with the theme for this year being around reducing hydrocarbon releases.
Oil & Gas UK’s health and safety director, Robert Paterson, said: “There are so many great ideas to improve safety being put into practice by the UK offshore workforce. This really is a great opportunity to not only reward these great ideas but to celebrate and share them.
“I’m pleased to say we’ll be extending the deadline for nominations and would urge anyone thinking of putting in a late entry to do so as soon as possible.”
Other awards handed out on the day will include those for Safety Leadership, Safety Representative of the Year, Preventative Safety Action and Most Promising Individual. The Award for Innovation in Safety will be given to a company and a special Services to Safety Award will be given to an outstanding individual chosen by the Step Change in Safety co-chairs, Martin Ellins and Ken Robertson.
