Teen, 18, Dies After 30-Foot Fall from Chair Lift at Worchester County Ski Area

Worchester, MA — An Upton teen died after falling 30 feet from a ski lift at the ski area in Shrewsbury Wednesday night, January 4, 2012. Investigators are currently trying to determine what caused the teen to fall to his death while at Ward Hill with the Nipmuc Regional High School ski team, TheBostonChannel.com reports.

The Worchester County District Attorney’s office reported that John Street, 18, of Upton fell from a chair lift around 6:45 p.m. onto the icy ground 30 feet below.

Street was found face down and unconscious after the fall.

The district attorney’s office believes that Street may have suffered a seizure while on the lift, but investigations are ongoing.

The Worchester County District Attorney’s Office and Shrewsbury police are investigating.

The ski area’s owner revealed that there were no mechanical problems with the lift.

No others were injured.
