Tulfo lauds PBBM for pardon of 3 Filipinos in UAE

Senator Idol Raffy Tulfo commended President Bongbong Marcos Jr. for the pardon of three convicted overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), two of whom are in death row, following the latter's appeal to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Tulfo, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Migrant Workers, also thanked the UAE President for cooperating with the Philippines and showing compassion to the three OFWs.

Tulfo said that the combined efforts and diplomatic relationship between Marcos and Al Nahyan are also commendable, proving that dialogue between leaders really have greater impact that would benefit the people they serve.

Malacañang recently confirmed that three Filipinos were given "humanitarian pardon" by Al Nahyan. Two of the three were already scheduled to be executed and one was facing a 15-year prison term.

According to the Palace, Marcos submitted two letters to Al Nahyan in late April to plead for the release of the three OFWs.

Tulfo likewise extends his gratitude to UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Alqataam Alzaabi, whom he personally met last month, for facilitating the exchange between the two leaders. He is equally grateful that the Ambassador confirmed UAE's commitment to uphold the rights and protect the welfare of more than 600,000 Filipino workers in the Gulf state.

Tulfo also vowed to support all the programs and projects of the Marcos government geared towards improving the lives of all our OFWs and their families.
