Bridge replacement on Polk County Road F-22/NE 126th Avenue over I-35 begins Wednesday, March 29

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – March 21, 2023 – If you are driving on Polk County Road F-22/NE 126th Avenue near Elkhart in the coming weeks you will need to be aware of bridge replacement project over Interstate 35 (exit 96) that could slow your trip beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, until November 2023, weather permitting.
While the roadway is closed, drivers will be detoured around the work zone using routes east and west of I-35 from NE 36th Street in Ankeny to Iowa 210 (see map). You can take a north or south detour route when traveling on Polk County Road F-22/NE 126th Avenue. The south detour will use NE 38th Street, NE 36th Street and U.S. 69. The north detour route will use Polk County Road R-70, Iowa 210, and U.S. 69.
Drivers may find that the north- and southbound I-35 ramps at Exit 96 may be open at times depending on the work taking place. Changes could made to detour routes during the construction season. Please visit 511ia.org for current detour route information before traveling through this construction zone and pay attention to detour signing and messages boards while driving.
Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
